Just for accuracy, there are other locally owned stations in Buffalo. WLVL/WEBR. WUFO and WXRL. WLOF is also owned by an organization based in Buffalo.
WBER/WLVL are not Buffalo radio stations. They are in Niagara county
Niagara County is art of the Buffalo Metro Survey Area.
It’s a part of the survey area, but it’s not Buffalo. These stations are licensed to Niagara County. I was not referring to ratings survey areas
And neither is WECK. It’s officially licensed to Cheektowaga, NY. So, please, let’s just drop the charade that Buddy is the only local owner of a Buffalo station. He’s not!
Yes, they are licensed to Lockport (WLVL) and Niagara Falls (WEBR) . But WKSE is also licensed to Niagara Falls, so you're saying that KISS is not Buffalo's CHR station? Okay, to be precise I should have said the Buffalo/Niagara Falls market.
Really? Cheektowaga is Erie County. Niagara Falls and Lockport are not even in the ballpark of Buffalo. WECK is a Buffalo station. Look at the coverage maps. WBER/WLVL are not Buffalo stations.

WKSE covers Buffalo and more. WBER/WLVL do not
Just stop! I literally biked from Amherst to Lockport the other day. And I barely broke a sweat. Talk about grasping! BOTH NIAGARA FALLS AND LOCKPORT ARE PART OF THE BUFFALO METRO AREA! Like Radio Guy said, is not WKSE considered a Buffalo station even though it’s licensed to Niagara Falls? Nobody here is buying your argument! And now you’re trying to shift your stance. No one disagrees that WECK has a stronger signal in our market. WECK and its FM outlets come in better than WEBR and WLVL. You stated Buddy was the only local owner of a Buffalo station. And that is not factual. it is wrong! Enough said!

But radio does not program to "cities". Even license renewal apps speak of the "community" and not the city. Cities are social or sociopolitical constructs and don't contemplate the fact that most people don't pay much attention to town and city borders beyond the one they live in.
If asked where I grew up as a child, I don't say "Beechwood" or "Lyndhurst". I say "Cleveland".
I'm obsessively adamant about this subject and tend to get annoyed when journalist speak of the population or demographics of a city without showing the data of the whole community, which is the central city and all its suburbs.
Every market has stations that have full coverage, some that cover most of the market, and others that just cover a piece of it.
In AM radio, in the top 100 markets (Buffalo is one of them) there are just 180 AM stations that cover at least 80% off the market day and night with an acceptable signal. That's out of 1591 commercial AMs in those markets (as of my June 1 list).
So my point is that we have to include all the stations in a market in any evaluation of that market.
I probably shouldn’t give into the trolling nature of your post earlier in this thread, HitThePost. But this needs to be said. You disparage this board for being boring. So untrue! The recent post about an FM sports station in Buffalo was very interesting. It was a discussion. There were no outlandish opinions. I guess you must have missed that thread.
I did check your posting history, HitThePost. Just a few cryptic posts, mainly about WECK. I don’t care if you’re Buddy or not. But you called out tbolt, who wasn’t even a part of this thread. Listen, I’ve had my issues with many of tbolt’s postings. But your criticism appeared to be very personal.
I think many of us on this board, including me, have no issues with the success Buddy has achieved. He’s quite a salesman. He was a top biller at Entercom. That provided him with enough revenue to buy WECK. Owning a station is the ultimate dream of many broadcasters. He adeptly added three FM low powered stations so that WECK covers the metro region quite well on the FM band. Buddy landed on a format that is resonating with listeners. He‘s obviously making money. Buddy was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame last year. Now he’s partnering with WBBZ-TV. More power to him! Buddy can be proud of all he has accomplished.
All that said, Buddy’s tenure as WECK owner has been filled with a bit of chaos. He alienated perhaps our market’s most beloved radio personality. Other big names either left or were unceremoniously dismissed. More recently, JP was leaving 97 Rock for WECK. Then he wasn’t. And then he was. Plus, there’s more to the Ronny D. Polka show debacle that Buddy tried to paper over as fake news. Most of all, WECK remains a second tier station behind the market leaders. We’re only made aware of 12+ numbers. And WECK remains in the 3 to 4 share range. Not bad for an AM station with FM low powered stations. And I’m sure WECK does better in the 35-64 and 55+ demos that we’re not privy to. Again, nothing to be embarrassed about. But I doubt WECK will ever supplant market leaders WYRK, WBLK, 97 Rock or WHTT.

I agree. Very interesting. And the posts about the WECK alliance with a TV operation are also interesting.
And well written and expressed in a non-virulent manner with a unique personal perspective. And it generated some interesting remarks. On the other hand, I had to delete one of tbolt's posts as offensive and am in discussions about further actions.
Total agreement. He was not banned due to anyone's complaint but because of some offensive and inappropriate language... which will be treated the same way for anyone.
That's the essence of what this board is about. Carry on!
What chaos at WECK? It’s been in the 2nd tier of top stations since Buddy bought it and changed it. This stuff about chaos is ridiculous. Talk about the chaos at Audacy who has fired 90 percent of their staff, sold their most powerful station, delisted, and now getting ready for a bankruptcy filing. THATS CHAOS!
Talk about Chaos..there are like 10 lawsuits being filed against WBER , by employees. That place has been in chaos from day one and has gained nothing, not to mention a total revolving door in just 3 years.
Cumulus couldn’t get a first bankruptcy right, so they had to do it again. Some Chaos there!
Who are these “dismissed” people you’re talking about at WECK? Employee changes happen all the time with every company, especially broadcasting. Could it possibly be the employees issue? Covid? You blame Buddy right away, and his station is the only one hiring people, paying people well, marketing, rising ratings, etc.
Then you mention a three hour Polka show issue that happened on one day. These things are not chaos. It’s reality with any company
‘Alienated the city’s most beloved personality. ‘Really? Do you know of this “beloved personalities “ relationship with all his/her former employers? Not good! I give Buddy credit for having the rocks to not put up with said personality.
You act like a 3-4 share is nothing. It’s where most stations are, in fact if this was Rochester, that’s a top 6 station. Those others are 50KW, not 1KW AM. Just to note, WECK is the ONLY 1KW AM station in the entire country in the top 10 . That is the entire country!
But all you talk about is “Chaos at WECK’. Become an owner, then you can make assumptions on what is chaos and what is not.

It was pre-packaged. No real chaos.
Ok, the bankruptcy was nice and tidy, so you are correct, no chaos. Just making all employees take a severe payout.

Actually, I used a "process" employed when setting up a new script writer room that a person in Burbank in "the business" gave me a few years back. It analyzes writing styles, education and vocabulary levels, and a buch of other factors to find a group of writers that together can write in a totally similar style.
This new poster is really good at emulating a different style or he is not Buddy. In fact, in a more recent post he made some factual mistakes that Buddy would know enough not to make.
Then why don't YOU take a break instead of whining about everything? It is getting pretty darned tiring.
