Labor Day Mixes

If you enjoy the holiday mix weekends like I do, I'm sure you will be checking out the Labor Day mixes this weekend. If you know any stations doing this, post them here. I know here in Dallas/Ft. Worth:

97.9 The Beat: Usually all weekend
K104: All day Labor Day

95.7 The Vibe in KC is doing a Party Songs weekend:

With there already being two, I'm surprised they didn't try rhythmic top 40.
Been tried before nearly 20 years prior with KDRB, and it overlapped with Kiss too much. Nowadays, it likely won’t be coming back because of low advertiser interest. I was surprised the previous format lasted as long as it did, considering spot breaks were mostly national/barter whenever I listened.

That's a market I would never be interested in going to.

As a native Iowan and Rhythmic fan but also former radio industry person it makes me scratch my head. There is a definite listener base here for sure. In fact years ago the Beat would get a 4-5 share 12plus. 2003-2005.

It’s gotten somewhat better over time but we still have a huge glut of 25-44 year old white women that companies love to target with mainstream. And after that 35-54 year olds with everything else.

The problem here is the audience doesn’t fit the advertiser interests. If you put a Rhythmic on today in Des Moines it would easily get a sizable audience but because the advertisers who use radio don’t want to talk to that audience it never matters.

So we will keep it good company with Seattle, Tulsa and maybe one other larger city for being devoid of Rhythmic.

But here is the thing….it’s been an issue for most of my life. Yikes!

One other thing….in over 2 years the Vibe has nothing other than 2 satellite shows during weekdays on it. It’s never really taken off. Which goes to show they’ve probably struck out again.

Oh and they have a Hot 5 countdown, automated by vote, twice a day during weekdays and most of the time it’s 90 percent Rhythmic. 😆

It's obviously all about the money. Even my hometown of Lubbock, Texas have 104.9 The Beat and now 92.3 The Vibe. That happened after I moved away years ago.
