Bustos Brings Spanish Rhythmic To Arizona/Mexico Border

Very interesting.

"As of September 2, 2023, Bustos Media Holdings, LLC and Gusar Telecomunicaciones, SA announce a commercial and programming agreement under Bustos’ URBANA brand.

The 50Kw XHAZE-FM 104.3FM Nogales, Sonora becomes URBANA to complement Bustos’s URBANA 92.5 FM Tucson. Jointly they will cover all of southern Arizona and the Northern part of the Mexican state of Sonora."

what makes this interesting? various sales agreements exist between stations in the US all the time.

The cross border marketing as 1 brand.
Outside of Nogales itself, there is very little population in Sonora until you get to Hermosillo, which is over 150 air miles away. I think that the purpose of this simulcast is to serve Nogales, AZ, and the other larger towns of Arizona this station will cover.

From: Nogales Symbol in Why Nations Fail | LitCharts

The divided city of Nogales represents the profound economic inequality between nations and the institutional factors driving this inequality. In the first chapter of Why Nations Fail, Acemoglu and Robinson compare how people live on either side of the border in Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Sonora. People living on the US side earn about three times as much as those on the Mexican side for similar work. They’re also more likely to be educated and healthy. And unlike their counterparts across the border, they can trust their government to represent them democratically and provide them with basic services like clean water, safe roads, and a fair legal system.

So a Border Blaster.

So a Border Blaster.
A tiny low antenna height one, but yeah. When they built it in Nogales, they knew that there was no significant Mexican population to serve outside of Nogales so they did not put up a taller tower (which also may be related to spacing with the US).

It's really a Nogales-only signal. Metro Tucson has adjacent channel signals on 104.1 and 104.5.

rolls eyes, its not meant to be and the press release didnt really imply that

Affirmatively, Nogales is one of the cities with the highest population density, followed by Magdalena de Kino ~ Santa Ana, and Hermosillo with more than 800 thousand inhabitants.

By the way, I already have the documentation before the IFT for a social class FM radio in the city of Santa Ana, Sonora. The technical proposal would be category "A" less than 3,000 watts. And the planned frequency would be 96.9 with the rclasicos.com project

I listened for a bit to the (underwhelming) stream at:

Website : URBANA NOGALES – Estación de radio

Audio Stream : https://stream9.mexiserver.com:8066/index.html?sid=1

While music content (and some sweepers) are Bustos-sourced it drfinitely follows the rules of Mexican radio with full IDs complete with studio location.

I joke after having heard quite a few mexican AM's form SE WY that "Mexican stations will ID everything, including the location of the kitchen sink"
