Star 102 Changes

WDOK has dropped its "Today's Hits and Yesterday's Favorites" slogan for "Cleveland's Feel Good Favorites."

They are also going deeper in their playlist and has a new male imagining voice.

The station still goes by "Star 102."

I have not been listening to them much lately. I'll have to check them out. I did hear Margaritaville on WDOK last week. Not sure if that was just in tribute to Jimmy Buffett or a sign that they are now playing more from the 70s.

I hate to sound my per usual, like 100, when it comes to radio.

But wonder how many listeners they'd gain or lose by dialing back to the Embrescia, Wilson, Pollock format of the early to mid-1990's? It seems like most stations, even when they tweak the format. It's never serious enough to really make an impact with terrestrial radio these days any way.

When WMJI "lost" me due to their downsizing and changes. It wasn't like there were any real meaningful choices to switch to so I went nowhere. (Actually, internet radio/Indianapolis which doesn't help much if I'm not near the internet).

"Cleveland's Feel Good Favorites"? Could mean a lot, to a lot of people. It starts out sounding kind of, bland and basic (or a they trying to put some "Majic" in that slogan?

Strange, as with the current slogan....Why not test out a polka or two in there per day also?

The closest you can get to the Malrite/Nationwide days of Majic 105 anymore is on AM via WDLW in Oberlin, and online at wixy1260online.com.

For the latter, you either put up with times of 100% automation/no live talent, good/experienced live talent, or work-in-progress live talent. Regardless, there are way less commercials than anywhere else on the dial.

For a "wild card" internet alternative that is the closest to WMJI's heyday (IMO) is big8radio.com. CKLW alumnus Charlie O'Brien programs the show and though it's 100% automation with very little voicetracking, it pretty much emulates the pre-1980's CKLW/800AM that was easlily heard in Cleveland.

And even WDLW is moving toward an Classic AOR Pop/Classic AOR Rock format over the past few months. AOR titles which used to be a little spice here and there now seem to be the main featured music. Not unusual to hear John Cougar Mellencamp into Jethro Tull into The Eagles into Elton John.
