KAHM Stream

I was listening to the stream for a bit, and when I heard the TOH legal ID, am almost certain that it foretells the future of KAHM. Along with the primary 102.1 HD signal, they are also heard in 'Press-kit' on not one, but two other signals: K228DF 93.5 and K269EE 101.7. Looking at the coverage maps for both, 101.7 seems more superior compared to the directional signal of 93.5, although both put a solid signal over Press-kit proper. There is no reason why KAH.M needs 3 signals covering the same area, unless... the BM format will be retained on the translators, with Chavez putting KNAI on 102.1. This brings me to my final point on why this will be happening, The KAHM calls will most likely be dropped for KNAI-FM. With no place to park them elsewhere, they can be grabbed up by another broadcaster, hence the new name with no call letters attached.

There's also KYCA-AM in Prescott that could be used to rebroadcast on either or both FM translators you mentioned.

To get you up to speed on a couple of things: KYCA has an FM translator K278CN 103.5, secondly KYCA has been separately owned now for about 4 years. Two longtime employees purchased it from Phoenix Broadcasting LLC (a company set up by the Chavez Radio Group). They are still housed in the sane building with KAHM.

I was previously aware of the sale of KYCA-AM to Prescott Broadcasting and the accompanying translator at 103.5.

Isn't Prescott Broadcasting the same entity that is currently leasing KAHM from Chavez and maintaining the beautiful music format on 102.1? If so, who actually owns the KAHM intellectual property...Chavez or Prescott Broadcasting? If it is Prescott Broadcasting, then it seems plausible they could use KYCA to rebroadcast on any of those frequencies (93.5, 101 7, or 103.5). If that isn't the case, how would a beautiful music "KAHM" go forward when 102.1 changes format since there seems to be no other AM or FM that could be used to legally feed an FM translator?

I don't think Prescott Broadcasting is leasing KAHM. In order to purchase KAHM the Chavez Group had to agree to keep the BM format intact on 102.1 for a 5 year term, with an option to extend it for another 5 years (10 years total). Also included is an option for Prescott Broadcasting to purchase it from Chavez. They are now in the second 5 year term which started last January.

As far as who owns the intellectual property, that's a good question. My best guess is that it is Prescott Broadcasting, since they are running the show right now, and as I don't see Chavez wanting to hang on to this type of format.

102.1 is an HD signal, which the two translators are already tied to. So leasing 1 or two of the HD subchannels to Prescott Broadcasting would be a financial incentive for Chavez, and keep the BM format going without having to outright purchase KAHM.

Reading the FAQ's on the KAHM website, they claim to be the most listened to radio station in Prescott, something that has not changed since they first went on the air. They are an institution on the radio dial, and as long as they are still making money, I can't imagine Prescott Broadcasting giving up a source of financial revenue like that.

I see now where you nentioned the KAHM HD2 channel, so yes, I could see how Chavez might be willing to lease the HD channel to Prescott Broadcasting to legally rebroadcast on one or more of the FM translators there in Prescott. I was unaware KAHM even had HD channels...

I believe the internet stream you're talking about is here: www.calmarizona.com
There are two streams for KAHM. One is of the actual FM programing which is here:

The one at CalmArizona.com you mentioned is a new, separate beautiful music stream the station offers branded simply as "CalmArizona". Whether both streams remain? My guess is the one for the FM will eventually be dropped which could be the case if/when KAHM changes format.

Evidently, KAHM is not broadcasting in digital.

KAHM just re-filed for their Phoenix move-in. Apparently the old CP was about to expire.

I was just out in AZ two weeks ago, travelling from San Diego to the Grand Canyon. I managed to pick up KAHM from Surprise AZ, just west of Phoenix on AZ highway 303, then all the way up I-17 to Flagstaff, then west on I-40 to Williams, where once I got off I-40 the signal disappeared as I descended down into Williams AZ. Totally gone in downtown Williams, But, still, a dam good signal.
