Does the new song “Angry” gain traction and spins anywhere besides Classic Rock? Could Active or Alternative take a chance with both a familiar and legendary band?
 
WMMR certainly will. Seeing how young people are into Classic rock more than ever, I don't why it's such a problem anymore.
 
The song has gotten traction on the AAA music charts. I know a university station with a hybrid Alternative/AAA format that is playing it in heavy rotation. I enjoy the song.

It’s already top ten on the Mediabase tracker for AAA, and top forty for Active Rock. The Rolling Stones have never been a force on Alternative though, so I’ll doubt they’ll chart there.

You probably won't hear it at all on classic rock. But it's charting now on both active rock and AAA.

Active Rock: About a dozen stations, including WMMR, WRAT, WIYY, WDHA, and WEBN

AAA: About 15 stations, including WERS & WXRV Boston, KINK Portland, KCMP, and KCSN Los Angeles.

28th September 2023 – U2 have recorded a brand new track titled Atomic City which will be released on Friday 29th September 2023. Produced by Jacknife Lee and Steve Lillywhite, it was recorded at Sound City in LA and comes ahead of the band’s upcoming run of dates at Sphere in Las Vegas celebrating their seminal 1991 album Achtung Baby.

Atomic City is a 3 ½ minute homage to the magnetic spirit of 70’s post punk with a nod to Blondie, whose pioneering work with Giorgio Moroder inspired and influenced the band. Bono says “It’s a love song to our audience …’where you are is where I’ll be’.”

Atomic City is itself a 1950s nickname for Las Vegas from a time when nuclear fascination swept the nation and the city promoted itself as a centre of atomic tourism due to its proximity to the Nevada Test Site.

The video is directed by Ben Kutchins, with creative direction by Tarik Mikou with Moment Factory Music, and features U2’s late night surprise performance of the track in Downtown Las Vegas just last week, the same Fremont Street location where Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. filmed their iconic video for ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ over 36 years ago.

U2 will kick off ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’ tomorrow, Friday 29th September. The 25-date run of shows will see the world’s biggest rock band launch the world’s brand new most state-of-the-art venue. This latest ambitious project celebrates the band’s acclaimed album Achtung Baby, as well as its accompanying industry-defining ZOO TV Tour which broke the mold in 1991 and firmly establish the band’s reputation as artists who have consistently pushed the boundaries of live performance, with ground-breaking stage shows that embrace the latest in technology and innovation.

Atomic City will be available as a digital single in Standard audio, HD audio and also in Spatial/Atmos; and a Limited Edition 7’’ Vinyl and Limited Edition CD single.

I do recall hearing "Mixed Emotions" (1989)_, and "Has Anybody Seen My Baby?" (1997) on an Alternative station.
 
They just released a new track "Sweet Smell Of Heaven" and it blows Angry out of the water. Mick and Lady gaga are excellent here, and Stevie Wonder plays a mean piano. It might be too slow and bluesy for Active Rock, but it's definitely the best song they've done in a long time.

Would be nice if CHR would give it spin, but they seem to be focused on Taylor Swift and flash in the pan Olivia Rodrigo.

“Mixed Emotions” actually did chart on Alternative as did 1991’s “Highwire”. Both of those are over 30 years ago and they’ve never made it back onto the Alt chart since.
