Music returns to 1210 WNMA

Looks like Oasis's lease is over and the non-stop commercial free mix of pop & spanish hits have returned to the 50K 1210.

Any guesses as to the next format or is 1210's days doomed with the new shopping center being built right on top of the tower site?

Someone, quick! Lease this station and bring back Spanish News to 1210 before WAQI and WQBA go under LMN operation and while WAXY is playing music!

whoever ponies up the cash.. thats what MRBI does.. you pay we play your programming.. it could literally be ANYTHING

What's going on at 990? Didn't that also run Oasis?

Its still running the Radio Oasis format there. I'm listening to 1210 as we speak and it is that pop and Spanish hits mix that @johntherogger said. I'll get further details when I can.

Yes. The music you are now hearing on WNMA is actually MRBI's (Multicultural Radio Broadcasting) old place holders from when they actually operated WNMA and WJCC, in house. That mix of Spanish and Anglo pop songs was programmed in-house and used during both stations unsold airtime hours. Both stations were political talk with a smattering of brokered whatevers to fill out the weekends. So, I guess that old music was all stored away; just hook up the old hard-drive to the transmitter and let it rip. For at time, WNMA, before it's LMA period, was running ESPN Spanish sports network.

This is the second time and LMA failed, there, at WNMA. Before Oasis, it was Tony Catalyud's "1210 The Man" that was supposed to "revolutionize" sport radio in the market. :ROFLMAO:

As for WNMA and WJCC: I seem to recall the deal was that one station was conservative talk and the other was liberal talk? I don't know what cause MRBI to pull out of both stations and LMA them both. Sure, it was probably an issue of either not turning a profit; but there has been a sort of firesale there; MRBI shed their TV stations and cut their station ownerships by over half, for at one time they had more than 50 and now its like 20-something. Their other station, WEXY 1520, that now seems to be an LMA as well; I punch in from time to time and keep hearing a "Darcy Jackson Roofing" infomercial, so he seems to be running the station. I mean, you hear him A LOT....

MRBI has been trying to sell the stations for quite some time. Without an attractive attachment to translators (which MRBI is not into, at all), I doubt anyone would want them. However, land is attractive, which is why WNMA and WJCC are relocation; as with WWNN's old transmitter/tower site in Parkland: the land sold for development. Speaking of which: who owns the dog park around the WEXY tower site? Does MRBI own it and rent it to the city of Oakland Park or does MRBI pay rent to the city to have the tower there?

What bothers me is that you never hear any hour IDs on WNMA. WJCC seems legit. But WEXY: for some reason their running IDs that say they're "WEXY Oakland Park" but in reality it should be "WEXY Wilton Manors".

Gosh, they know they have to do a formal Legal I.D. But they don't know their City of License?

The only ones who care about an ID, unfortunately, are the FCC and radio nerds. The average listener knows what theyre listening to and or knows how to look it up.

Canada, UK and Australia dont have these requirements.

Its old, outdated, pointl;ess and unneeded.

Translators can ID via inaudible FSK, frequency shift keying.. they should allow that for full power FMs, or use RDs, akin to TV stations showing the ID on screen but not speaking it.

Listening to K262AI in Laramie, WY as I did occasionally because I helped keep an eye on it, all youd hear ID'd is KWYC Cheyenne, K262AI was obviously fed over the air.... and this pic is what ID K262AI, inaudibly.

When WEXY was carrying Music of Your Life overnights several years ago they never played a legal ID, and the window provided by the network at the top of the hour was just dead air.

When the AM half of the station I worked at had that format it was at the far end of the hall but in the FM side at the other end of the hall had an AAA format we had the studio speakers cranked up so loud [I think they were 5000 watts...or least sounded like it] that the AM guy came down the hall to scream at us to turn it down because when he was trying to announce you could hear the FM side faintly coming over his mic even with the studio doors closed. Those were some honking big speakers and I never understood why they had such huge ones in both of the tiny AM & FM studios.

WTMI once had a similar problem with car alarms

Ages ago before the power increase and 24 hour operation WEXY was licensed to Oakland Park.
