Estereo Baja 1550 AM

XEBG has a new format, mostly English language pop, and they're not playing the known hits, Heard an unknown song by Mike Posner, Billy Eilish "Happier Than Ever', some artist named LP, for example

And yes, they're branding includes the word 'Stereo'' I don't have an AM stereo receiver to verify that they are in indeed broadcasting in AM stereo, maybe someone who does in the SD/TJ area can check if they do.

The Listen Live stream on their website tends to shutdown unexpectedly, but just click again and comes right back up.

If, by "stereo" you mean HD radio, you should be able to tune to 1540, or 1560 and hear a loud "roar". If you mean the 1980s various AM Stereo systems well....

Only analog, doesn't lock on to an HD signal, and no loud roar. I'm starting to think the 'stereo' is referring to online streaming. If you're an AM playing music, it's a way to make sure your listeners know how they can listen with much better sound quality.

“Stereo” = generic term for a radio.

Yes, we know that doesn’t make sense. Regular public doesn’t care or know if it’s stereo or mono.
Possibly, XEBG is trying to put lipstick on their pig. I find it amusing that there are listeners who actually believe they are listening to 'stereo' on AM analog.

What I was trying to say, is that if you have a typical analog AM radio if you tune 10 kHz above or below tha station in question you will hear a white noise type roar if the station in question is broadcasting in the Ibiquity "HD" digital system.

I think you said what you were trying to say just fine.

KilowattKat was reporting in the field observations and seems to be in San Diego, they reported no HD was present. they were Not calling you out as incorrect.

Here in LA our station on 980, KFWB which plays Rancheras and other related music, still identifies at the top of the hour as KFWB and HD Los Angeles. This station has not broadcast in digital for well over a year now and to my knowledge is not simulcast on any FM HD-2,3,4 channel.

Under the old ownership, when 1550 was part of Cadena (?) they were a talk station by day and simulcasted an adult contemporary FM station from either Guadalajara or Mexico City at night. The other station, 800 AM did the same, as did XEWW/690. I guess those stations felt that rather than staff a night crew or rerun daytime programming they could likely just run music from a sister station at night, probably via internet feed.

I had thought maybe this was where 1550 was getting "estereo" from, perhaps a simulcast of an FM stereo station somewhere, but the fact that they are calling it "Estereo 1550" tells me that's not the case.

1550's format is all over the board. Sometimes I hear Spanish-language talk, other times U.S. style Adult Contemporary music in English.

"Cadena" means "Network" so the word might be used by any number of stations in each market in Latin America.
