Maren Morris Quits Country

Maren Morris told the LA Times she's leaving country music.

The fact is that she has always had a broad view of music. She's a Grammy winning country singer and writer. But she had a huge pop hit as vocalist on "The Middle." She's also been vocal about her political and social beliefs. One might say she allowed herself to be overrun by social media, engaging in battles with celebrities, other country artists, and fans.

She picked a public, political/culture-war fight with the Aldeans. She must have been planning her exit from the first word she tweeted. Beefs of any kind don't play well in mainstream country music. Nashville banks big on that one-big-happy-family vibe,

That apparently includes homophobia, white nationalism, and this whole new 'anti-woke' trend. Not saying that Country fans or artists in general are racists or intolerant, but if one was looking for a societal sector that encompassed the greatest numbers?

She was country?
She fit comfortably into the format for several years. She had only one non-country hit (a collaboration with a couple of EDM types) and one crossover pop hit. The rest of her songs impacted only on country radio. It all ended for her after last year's "Circles Around This Town," which peaked at No. 9 in airplay, when radio pulled the plug on her follow-ups after her public dispute with Jason Aldean's wife. So now she's trying AAA or soft pop or sensitive singer/songwriter or whatever box you want to put her in. Credit to her for being honest about it all, but it's hard to see where she fits on radio in 2023 unless she goes more electronic, rhythmic or hip-hop. This isn't 1997 and Lilith Fest isn't coming back.

That's an interesting thought. There are a bunch of female artists who collectively could sell out such a thing. Imagine a tour with Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, and Maren Morris as headliners.
Has Miranda Lambert found a new label yet? She left Sony in March and I haven't been able to find a single story about a new recording deal since. There were rumors she'd go to Big Loud when she and Morgan Wallen wrote a song together for his latest album, but I don't think anything came of them. AFAIK, she did nothing to incur the wrath of country music's anti-woke brigade, so I would think the door is still open for new music from her at country radio.

You mentioned the Dixie Chicks. Remember how they were treated for speaking out? The Country crowd doesn't seem very tolerant to me. Critical thinking isn't important to them...

I never could get into Country music but those who love it are by far the most fair-minded, thoughtful, honest, and morally superior people you will find in this country.
They disagree with someone else on an issue that they are very passionate about but the difference is that the don't consider that person their enemy who must be punished just because of differing views, that's what being an American is supposed to be about. Wanting to harm, eradicate, or deny a fair trial based upon facts and valid evidence to someone just because they don't vote the same way that you do means that you are a horrible human being (no surprise that their is also a correlation of such people using their own automobile to terrorize people for sport yet deny law abiding Americans who value life the ability to protect their families).
It's important to remember that there does exist anomalies to the correlated typical behaviors and mentality, so just like most people passionate about the Country lifestyle do, I also strongly believe in starting with respect and kindness and allowing the individual to show you who they truly are.

What evidence do you have to support the theory that Country Music listeners are morally superior? Sounds like Cow Pie to me. When people spoke against the Iraq War, many were ostracized. Some people are decent and others are hypocrites no matter what music they like...

I think we need to be cautious and put things into proper perspective while trying to avoid unfair stereotyping. Doing that quickly: Not all fans of Gansta Rap or hip-hop are thugs or gang members, but some are. Not all fans of Reggaeton are MS-13 members, but some may be. Not all Thrash Metal fans are Satin worshipers, but some may be. Not all fans of Country are intolerant, or racist, but some are.
I could go on, but you get the idea.

If DOB is white and Southern, then he is personally defying a stereotype. He can't get into country music!

Oh, and who worships satin? Velour, I can see. Velvet, no problem. But satin?

Moody Blues had a bootleg version of NIGHTS IN WHITE SATAN. "Dimi Why you do this?" -- The Exorcist...

Also the Deep South states which believe in "traditional family values" and abstinence until marriage have the highest rates of teen pregnancies, fatherless children, STDs, and online porn usage.
