Christmas/Thanksgiving parade moves to WCCB

After three quarters of a century on WBTV I saw a commercial saying the parade would be only on WCCB this year.

First they change the format, then they move it to night, now this.

Regarding moving the holiday parade to nighttime, if the parade is sponsored or organized by the Chamber of Commerce, that move may make sense. In at least a few cities, the Chamber of Commerce, which is in place to try and increase interest in local businesses, get exposure for the various businesses in their community and maybe even advocate on their behalf, moved things like Christmas parades to nighttime for a few reasons. Note this may not apply in all cities and communities and to all situations:

1) They found the crowds were larger for nighttime parades vs. those held in the afternoon on weekends, and they benefited from folks who were looking for evening activities to do with their families.
2) Feedback was generally positive from the community as people liked the lighted floats and other aspects of the nighttime event.
3) Again, since the Chamber of Commerce is there to grow business in the community, they found that when they had daytime parades, many people who attended those would bring their own snacks for their kids, watch the parade and then split. When they held nighttime parades, people were more likely to stay in the area afterwards and spend their $$ patronizing businesses; they'd dine at local restaurants, shop at businesses near the parade route, etc.

My opinion is that while you can't guarantee a nice day, daytime is so much better when the weather is sunny. I feel sorry for the spectators going out there in cold weather at night.

But again, they're not worried about trying to schedule the parade on a sunny day. They're trying to drive sales and get people to patronize businesses in the area - that's one of the primary duties of a Chamber of Commerce. If the data and $$ numbers show that they make a bunch of $$ by having the parade at night as spectators stay in the area to shop and eat vs. a daytime parade where everyone leaves directly after, the decision for them really isn't a difficult one. Again, their job is to drive sales and make $$ for the businesses they represent, not worry if the weather is a bit nippy. And spectators can wear a scarf if need be.

Sorry to see the changes with the Thanksgiving Day parade. For years it was always on Thanksgiving Day on WBTV, and was known as the Carolinas Carousel Parade. And it featured a Carousel Queen pageant. Then it became Novant Health Parade and moved to night. Disappointing. Now the telecast is moving to WCCB, which has a smaller signal coverage area than WBTV. And now they say the Pride parade attracts a bigger crowd than the holiday parade. Changing times I guess, but I much prefer the old Carousel parade on Thanksgiving Day on WBTV.

Not a very good broadcast in my opinion compared to the old days. Too many commercials and who knows what we missed. Too many corny jokes, and one of the hosts was named "Boogie" which is not a good sign. I know that had a fire department entry and they always had at least two or three classic trucks. I think I saw one. There are all these performances of "music" or dancing with "music" and not a lot of marching bands. I remember when there were lots of high school bands but I guess they don't have room for them.

Charlotte Fire Department was there but WCCB was on commercial break and they weren’t seen. Was going to post the link but the post was deleted and got a screen shot but it was too large to post. 🙄Didn’t see a fire truck. It probably wasn’t allowed. 🙄

Regardless of what was left out, they knew they were showing all these commercials and interviews and behind the scenes looks, and that they were only showing half the parade.

I read that some protesters were removed from the Macy's parade. This reminds me there was a sign about Palestinians that kept appearing. I wonder if there was anything they could have done about that. It's supposed to be a happy event without controversy.
