Star 102.5 has relaunched on 107.7 HD2

Playing Christmas music! Might I add several former listeners have downloaded the app in the southern tier to pick this up!
Southern Tier of Antarctica? Maybe 3 of the 9 people who have HD Radios may tune in. The question is can Audacy make the cash registers ring with streaming...

That posters are treating the 107.7 HD2 signal as "news" is indicative of awareness or, in this case, lack of such. If radio geeks respond in this manner, what's the awareness factor for the average Joe and Jane in Cheektowaga or Amherst? Most users of radio don't have HD, nor do they care about having to have it. What's more, in some cars, calling up the HD channels of radio stations is, frankly, not user friendly. If it's not on the main channel, it doesn't exist. Streaming might be a sleigh of a different color, attracting some ears, but with Joy/Mix/Breeze/New 96 point 1 set to go All Christmas on November 1st, Star's Christmas stream seems to be less appealing for the average listener who just wants to hear Christmas music 24-7 and find it in the easiest manner.

The lack of promotions for HD has always been a problem but every year there are more & more HD radios in cars. The major issue that 107.7 faces is that it not a Buffalo station. The upper iboc sideband at 107.9 is killed by Y108 out of Toronto. That combined with their weak digital signal makes the HD2 almost impossible to pick up near Southtowns or Downtown. They also have to null the signal toward the west northwest (ie Buffalo) because Canada has a co-channel on that Freq. The station is designed to cover to the south like Arcade in farm country. I wonder if they ever looked at moving the Freq to 107.5 closer to Buffalo the use directional to point away from Canada. Tough to do it now, but before translators, the HD and main signal might have covered Buffalo area better than just a rim shot. I travel 219 to and from downtown and HD only locks when I get down on top in the Boston hills but spotty HD at best. Streaming HD2 in the car is the only option IF I wanted to listen to Christmas music.
