Denver Avalanche radio history

Before KSE moved the team to ‘KSE-FM, who has served as the Avs’ flagships during its history? I saw a Post article saying KCKK did for a time.

The 1510/93.7 iteration of KCKK had the rights to the Avs, Nuggests and Rapids from 2013-15 after serving as overflow home from 2010-13. The game broadcasts were branded as "Altitude Sports Radio" and part of the reason why Kroenke acquired their four stations in 2015.

From 1995 until 2013, KKFN had the rights.

Lance, if I remember correctly, the Nuggets were on KOA for much of their early NBA years until ‘96 or so, correct?

So Jefferson-Pilot apparently signed a deal for the Nuggets beginning in 1995–96. It then flipped KYGO AM to sports. The Nuggets had become unhappy with KOA when it bumped its playoff games to KTLK 760 because of Rockies baseball and even looked at buying their own station. That deal included first option on hockey if the team came to Denver. I see a mention that 1987–88 was their 12th season in a row on KOA, so that means they jumped in 1976 when the Nuggets moved to the NBA.

They appear to have been on KHOW in 1974 and 1975 (Nuggets name but in the ABA) and on KOA prior to then.

I remember hearing what was then the ABA Denver Rockets on KOA in the early 1970s. KOA also had Denver University hockey in those days; often a delayed broadcast of the DU games would follow the Denver Rockets broadcast if there was a conflict.

The ABA team name was changed to Nuggets in 1974 as the likelihood of an eventual merger with the NBA became more apparent.

Wonder how many remember the original Nuggets? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denver_Nuggets_(1948–1950)

Speaking of 93.7, what's on there now??

You mean it's a haven for Pro-MAGA lunatics now??
It's one of iHeart's two dumping grounds for various forms of right-wing syndicated talk and weekend financial-scam shows, because Denver doesn't have enough of those already...not to mention the demographic dead-end they're putting themselves in. At least KOA is stuffed with so much sports programming that its right-wing garbage is confined mostly to the mornings and early afternoons.

Ohh brother 🙄

Yeah but it's NOWHERE the sports talker that 92.5 & 104.3 are. It's actually more in line with where the combination of 1430 & 1600 are (Except with live sports events)

In some ways, KOA is rather old-fashioned: morning news block, talk until mid-afternoon, then sports talk, with a boatload of live sports.
