"Big Announcement" Regarding John and Ken on Monday

I believe the median KFI listener age is 59, hardly a "dying demographic." Anyway, I find the term extremely offensive.
I was talking more about “angry white boomer afraid of the world changing” as a dying demographic. Not specifically their age.

As usual, y'all provide great amusement with your incorrect guesses and off-base speculation.
Ken is leaving. Ken. His choice. It is possible that his decision has led to additional developments, but since they're in the middle of a contract, I would be surprised if John also goes at this time. Not that it's impossible. Or perhaps they are bringing on a new partner for John. Whatever else may be announced, rest assured that the precipitating event is the early departure of Ken.

On the other hand, you are wishing that about a half-million listeners be deprived of a show that they truly like.

There are enough radio stations and streams and podcasts available in LA so that you can not be forced to listen. Live and let live.
Since KFI's total cume is less than 500,000, I doubt that there are currently half a million fans of ANY show on that station.

FWIW- George Putnam (then KIEV/870) gave those two a shout out on his Noon-time call-in show because of their stance on immigration, and this was years and years ago, 20th Century. J&K haven't changed a bit from the time when they were wet behind the ears. It's funny how abortion and immigration have been GOP staples since early 1980's but J&K wisely stayed far away from abortion and life-style issues as they could. Real conservative contrarians.

John has been toeing the GOP line a lot more lately. That’s a big reason their show is a lot less enjoyable. Again, there’s a reason John’s been slinging mypillows.

That would make sense. Every time I see Ken at an event or remote he just looks so frail. Here’s hoping they don’t let John just go crazy as a solo act.

OK, so you're saying I shouldn't mention my guess of the announcement being that KFI is going all Christmas to accomodate listeners who need their Christmas Music but only have AM radios on the car?

San Diego, Riverside/San Bernardino, Oxnard, High Desert, Bakersfield. All add up to about 500 thousand.

I'm just a listener of LA-market radio, though one for a very long time (I am 66). The foregoing is based merely on opinion and no knowledge of the business.

This "Big Announcement" could be nothing but some personal milestone, but it seems to be offered as pretty important, maybe more than a family thing or anniversary or something.
I can imagine that J and K have not been happy with being bumped down to 1-4. Their program has been a major factor in KFI's success through the years. They have lasted longer than Mark and Brian Yet , as has been pointed out here, station management, not known for bonehead moves, would not have done so if their audience was holding steady let along growing. So you would think.

Doug McIntyre said in a Daily News interview not long ago that he's not interested in a daily gig at KFI, but take that for what it's worth. I think his book is done, not sure, I am a big fan of his, I would love to see him there, when he left KABC five years ago I couldn't imagine he was done with radio.

I like John Phillips, but I don't think he's someone who KFI thinks it needs to move forward.
In 2012 the "Mark and Brian" show dissolved without trying to continue with a new host for Brian. I don't know how a new partner for either JK or KC, whoever might be leaving, would work. But who knows? not me.

What if their announcement is "Good news, Angry White Boomers! They're doubling our hours and repeating the show overnights. All haters.....please film/videotape [none of this new-fangled digital crap; we don't have enough time left in this world to figure that out] of your heads exploding!"

And they’ll bring back the frost warnings…..

"This is Robin Bertolucci, program director of KFI. Recently, cases of audio tape were discovered in an iHeart warehouse. It is unscoped, perfectly preserved tape of the complete works of Lohman and Barkley---and of Dick Sinclair's Polka Party. So it's with gratitude that we wish both Bill Handel and John & Ken a happy retirement..."
