Denver KVCU somewhat restored

Today (Nov. 9), 1190 KVCU Boulder filed an AM Restoration of License Operation Notification with the FCC, stating that its auxiliary transmitter is back in service, enabling it to transmit with 1 kw. The station had been operating under an STA after its main transmitter was destroyed in an electrical fire. Subsequently, a nearby lightning strike damaged the auxiliary transmitter.

Licensed nighttime operation is 110 watts. Tonight in Denver, I was able to hear it. It wasn't strong by any means, but it was audible.

In the morning, I will see what daytime reception is like.

They're back. I think the 4-bar (out of 5-bar) signal strength reading is a little high compared to what it actually sounds like, probably due to pervasive electrical interference in the neighborhood, but it's listenable.

You should make an aircheck video of it & put in on YouTube (I;m sure Ellis Feaster would appreciate it 😀

It's pretty noisy here, and there's some source of interference that I can't track down. (By the way, at least today, it seems to be off again.) Part of it is the network terminal device for my FTTdp connection and I've been able to minimize that but some of it's in the neighborhood. I've walked around trying to track it down but so far haven't found it.

I imagine that, when KVCU gets back up to full power, the situation will be better but still not entirely noise-free. That tuner that I pictured has a bandwidth of about 4.5 kHz, so it's listenable but it ain't FM, either.
