Format Changes 2024

this might sound insane, but I think that WEPN-FM will stop carrying the all-sports format and that format will go to WEPN-AM
It was already announced a few months ago:

Emmis says it wants $50 million for the station, and the only people with that kind of money have agendas that don't include commercially popular music formats. Unless Randy Michaels wants to get his behind kicked again.
That's the joke. But then again, sarcasm doesn't often translate well into text.

Actually the GK LMA is up on 8/31/24, and they will not re-new, according to the article I linked above.
If it's not sold, it's up to Emmis.
Exactly what I said. "If it is sold". As soon as the lease or LMA (same thing, different words) is up, Emmis sells its last startions.
Jeff said the shareholders as he prepared to go private that they would be out of radio when commitments were ended.
I can only think of two companies that would pay anywhere near the price tag Emmis is asking for, EMF and Red Apple Media.
I know its a longshot BUT the dentist told me that too back in the day yet he was the one that got egg all over his face.
Audacy's not dumping The Block for something like Country. I could see WXBK start possibly leaning more towards R&B or newer music, but that's the only change I see from them.

Red Apple could be a possibility for 98.7. Mr. Cats has shown a passion for radio with what he has done to improve WABC with or without the profits to match. He is also a successful businessman, who could possibly see the potential for a new talk station. I have heard he wants political influence, much like Mr. Strauss did with WMCA's talk, and the modern FM with a modern talk approach could be the way he could achieve this.
Someone had posted that WTKS was originally WWNZ-FM, a simulcast of an AM. The same thing could be done here. Use the WABC programming to round out the off hours, but use those sweet daytime dayparts to go after younger listeners. I bet a consultant could give him guidance in how to program the new talk. I also bet that Emmis will want to be shed of the radio station, and no reasonable offer will be refused.
Younger listeners? Younger than 70? As long as he has hosts over 50 talking conservative politics, there will be no younger listeners. People under 40 don't want to hear their parents complain on the radio. They get enough of it at home. If Cats buys this station, it becomes WBAI for the other side.
No, no, no - listen to WTKS - their talk hosts are the age of their callers, talking about what people their age are interested in. I don't think WTKS took off until Howard Stern was part of the package, and that certainly was not something that was on WWNZ. The new talk 98.7 would have to be judicious in using any of the WABC programming, but it is at least there to fill overnight holes (if they didn't go full WTKS and spin Alternative). Mr. Cats likes being an active part of his station. Could he use the 98.7 to speak to people he doesn't reach with 770? Maybe sitting in with the mid afternoon host to chime in as appropriate?
I just think Mr Cats has the cash and passion for radio, and new talk is a format that needs to be tried.
A little harsh, don't you think? At least Cats pays his bills, employes talent and runs a real radio station. WBAI is, and has been a s--show for decades, along with it's "parent" Pacifica.
