Disney considering selling cable channels to A&E

I would think if CBN didn’t care much about Freeform showing 700 Club CBN would accept a payment from Disney to end the contract.
We may never know the story or terms of the contract, but the last thing I heard on the subject is that ABC/Disney offered to buy out the contract, and CBN gave them a number that was much higher than ABC/Disney was willing to pay at the time. I believe this was back during the ABC Family days.

I don't see CBN having any interest in operating a secular network, and flipping it to a religious network will likely violate any contract terms that the cable companies who still carry it have with the network (It's the same reason HLN simulcasts CNN in the morning, because if they didn't, Cable Companies could drop them for no longer being a news network). They may sell to A&E, and if that doesn't work, I could see a very good chance that it either be shuttered, or eventually defacto shuttered when Comcast, Dish, DirectTV, etc. all want the same deal they just gave Charter (which, make no mistake, they will want when those carriage agreements expire). Freeform is on borrowed time, the way I see it.

Be interesting to see what contract has about if cable channel ceases to exist. Contract pre-dated streaming but wonder if there is any obligation to pick up on another channel owned by same owner as Freeform if Freeform (and a successor/renamed channel) shuts down.

It's hard to say as each contract is different, but USUALLY in a sale of a network (as Family Channel was when Fox bought it) the condition goes with the network. If the network ceases to exist, then so does the contract. However, they could have put a stipulation in the contract that the network CANNOT cease to exist for X number of years. I can't imagine Fox would have accepted such a stipulation, but who knows?

wow Check this out :“It’s just sometimes when I speak out loud or think out loud, I get a reaction right away. In most cases when I do it, I’m trying to get a reaction from the investment community, just to see.”

I guess he forgot he was on live TV. What business does he work in again? Sometimes I forget.

In fairness, the media can tend to exaggerate what is said. I mean he of all people should know that, but “we’d consider options” has a way of morphing into there being a fire sale down at Mickey’s Network Emporium.
