KOLA barely playing 70's music.

I looked on the KOLA app and they hardly play any 70's music anymore now it's 80"s 90's and 2000's. There most recent hit is maroon 5 this love. They are averaging 3 90's hits an hour. I bet if KRTH does carefull research they could play a couple of 90's hits an hour if they select the right tunes. Anyway I'm thrilled KOLA is doing Great.

Why would KRTH want to change? They are at the best levels in their history in total share as well as in the most wanted sales demos.

KRTH will add or drop a song when the research on each one justifies such a move. Nobody there is walking around saying "I think we need more 90's songs" when they are at their highest point ever.

No, it's not. That whole market is down, and it will never recover to the pre-2008 recession levels. In fact, the market's 2023 revenue is projected to be nearly 25% below that of as recently as 2016.

The problem here is that agencies use metrics to establish rates that are based on the delivery of persons; they use "rating" and not "share". The KOLA rating as well as the total market Persons Using Radio (Now PUMM) is off by nearly 70% in the last two decaades. The average listening level 6 AM to Midnight in the market tin 2002 was around 19 (meaning an average of 19% were listening on average) and now it is around 5%.

And, in that market only about 26% to 27% of all listening is to local stations. The rest is to LA stations. The biggest issue is that Riverside-San Bernardino is the 26th market in population, but it is way down at 45 rank position in market radio revenue.

KOLA is doing great doing what it is doing. 6+ ratings show it's dominance. That doesn't mean a hill of beans for the insider bean counters but from a pure layman's standpoint KOLA is just right steering the lane it's in right now.

Outside of Casey Kasem reruns on the weekends, KOLA runs Classic Hits that don't peg upon any particular genre. They have no problem playing Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" into "Smooth" by Santana. It's kinda KBIG in a ways while still dotting in New Wave 80's and even old hot Country with Shania Twain. KOLA can be all over the place without advertising itself as such ala JACK.

KRTH and KOLA are two different animals both doing great in their own respective lanes today.

There was a time when KRTH and KOLA sounded quite similar but that time has long since past.

Either way you slice it KRTH and KOLA both have seemed to resonate with it's listener base and that is all that really matters in terms of success.
