WCNW 1560 Goes Dark. Forever.

I told a lady I was thinking about applying for a FM station in her town. I saw her 6 months later. She said "I see you don't follow through on what you say". I responded by saying the opportunity to file for a station like that might be allowed once a decade or less and nobody can do anything until the FCC says. I added it was likely a few years off. She didn't understand. I'm just an untrustworthy person in her mind.

Not about this station -- but right now, on my 1961 Zenith transistor radio, I am hearing a "Real Country" station quite dimly, sandwiched between local Amsterdam (n.y.) 1570 and Windsor's French 1550. They have an FM translator, but I cannot make out the frequency -- only "one'hundred [something], point 7". Any idea who this is? Thanks!

WTNS

This wouldve been much better in its own thread on the DX board

The silent STA has been extended to May 1 with this little caveat: The broadcast license for Station WCNW(AM) will automatically expire as a matter of law if broadcast operations do not resume by 12:01 a.m., May 2, 2024.

I wonder how many AM stations will still exist in 2034? probably the full power 50 KW stations and not much more.

There are plenty of 5 kw stations below 1000 kHz that have excellent coverage. Many do just as well as 50 kw higher on the dial.

Good point. WKRC 550khz in Cincinnati and WTVN 610khz in Columbus are both holding their own, to site two examples in my area.
We could build a big list... far greater than the few 50 kw day and night stations in the U.S.

Look at the farm stations like 550 and 570 in the Dakotas and quite a number more. Look at 620 and 550 in Phoenix as examples of decent (although being outgrown by the market housing and business development). Or 550 in San Antonio, 610 in Miami and 620 in Tampa and 600 in San Diego... and quite a few more.

660 KEYZ in ND does quite well.. has listeners 150 mile away in Montana.
