MLB

i think if MLB is gone from Bally's Sports, then in Dallas, the Rangers go to either Fox's KDFW/KDFI with Fox Sports producing the games or Paramount Global's KTVT/KTXA with CBS Sports producing the games with Nexstar KDAF as a dark horse with CW Sports producing the games. that is if MLB goes the local OTA TV route unless they opt to move the games over a streaming service under a regional format where you can see it locally but if you are outside the market, you pay a little extra for outside the market access.

They would need to pay the Rangers $111 million, according to this:

Diamond Sports Group, which owns the Bally networks, including Bally Sports Southwest, reached an agreement earlier this year to pay all of its rights fees for 2024, with the condition that all of its deals with MLB teams would end after that season. That deal would provide the Rangers with the $111 million they are expecting in 2024.

That's how much the team is expecting for its TV rights. If they don't get it, it will affect their ability to sign high-priced free agents.

It's not "if" anymore. It's "when." And "when" is coming soon, before Spring Training starts. I'm not saying that they'll all go OTA, in fact they won't **cough** Diamondbacks **cough**.

But the days of corporate-owned RSNs on cable/satellite are over. I won't be surprised if many, if not most teams now associated with Bally/Diamond set up their own networks, like the Cubs did with Marquee. Some teams may air a partial schedule OTA like the old days, but I don't think we're going back to the days of 150 Cubs games on WGN.

Not a lot of teams can support their own RSN. NY LA Boston Chicago. Who else can go it alone.

If all the teams in a market got together, it might work. For instance, if the Minnesota Twins, Wild, and Timberwolves got together, and included the current Vikings programming on BSNorth, along with regional college programming, they should get the carriage needed and might make it work. You'd to have that joint ownership, though, just one of those teams owning an RSN wouldn't work, the Twins already tried that once and it failed miserably.

Amazon could be Bally Sports' white knight:

If Amazon.com wants in on local NBA, NHL and MLB then this is the way to go. Don't make it streaming only. Do a hybrid system of the local teams on cable or OTA and for out of market teams then a streaming package.

But they don't need to take on the Diamond debt to get access to cable channels. They can start their own and buy the rights.

True, but they can buy it out of bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar and have access to those cable systems the Diamond has contracts with. Thats a good starting point. Amazon.com would not have to negotiate new carriage deals on those existing agreements. Plus they would not have to build studios and master controls. Just use the equipment that was already used by Diamond Sports.

They've been able to handle the NFL and MLB deals they have now just fine. TBH I don't know if they build their own or lease existing facilities elsewhere. I've been told they're leasing. But I get what you're saying that getting the assets would save them some time & trouble. That makes this an easier decision of coming up with the right price.
