Wyoming USFS 1710 AM Launching in Bridger-Teton Nat'l Forest

I am not sure 1710 is a kosher frequency in this case. It sounds like a Part 15 and not 10-watt TIS setup.

It's a way for visitors to stay up to date on fire and wildlife risks, with some of that information coming from Indiana Jones himself.

For $20,000 thats a TIS set up.

And 1710 is legal for TIS'.. some arent managed or lciensed by the fcc, and handled by another federal authority alphabet
 
FINALLY! -- A "thread" about 1710 that has not been"closed due to inactivity! I am in Gloversville, New York, which is about 50 miles west-north-west of Albany. For a number of years, I found 1710 alive with Hudson County, New Jersey's T.I.S., joined by another one from a tourist-attraction armory in tbe Springfield, Massachusetts area. Both appear to be gone entirely now: anyone know how or why? All I hear on 1710 is a very weak Spanish station that sounds commercial and has deep fades which suggest that it is coming a long distance. It appears to be coming from south-south-east or north-north-west. Anyone know? My DXing begain in 1951 on an RCA Victor 8B41 four-tube portable I got in 1949 that still works. Most often, now, I use my 1961 Zenith Royal 500H which I have tuned to reach up to 1720 (it still covers down to about 527).

How did you change it to get the expanded band? I have a Zenith Royal 68 I want to do the same thing to.

TIS type stations wont be listed on radio locator and 1710 isnt a frequency for full powers in the US.. this sounds like possibly a pirate
 
This Teton 1710 TIS has been heard in Alberta at night by multiple DXers. The Spanish station you are talking about sounds like a pirate. I'm guessing it's religious.
I believe WQFG689 in NJ may have gone back to 10-watt authorization. During COVID it was 100 watts (with health/vaccination info) and heard as far away as British Columbia. Alas, I never picked them up. All I've heard in the past few years on 1710 is the Travis AFB TIS and the 'KHMB' pirate network in Half Moon Bay CA, operating 5 towers at part 15 power, 100 milliwatts. But w/ the 5 towers synched, it's probably more like 1-2 watts.

You're right. I think WQFG689 from NJ is back to 10 watts because I'm getting it much weaker than I used to and I'm only about 10 miles away from the transmitter.

Isn't there a fairly powerful 1710 station on Anguilla, in the Caribbean? I remember hearing Dr. Gene Scott preaching on it in years past.

I've very very very rarely seen a pirate station listed on radio locator. ...... i cant recall the last time i did.

1610.... and it may have been listed on R-L at one time.
