KLQS-LP San Fernando (97.5)

Well, 97.5 KLQS-LP San Fernando has finally hit the air here in the SFV. Trouble is as of this moment there is only audio in the right channel. They're playing oldies, similar to Saul's K-Surf streaming app.

What area of the Valley i supposed to cover I drove from Simi to Newhall on the 118 and after 97.5 from Goleta faded out I heard a Bob Dylan song but had to turn the volume almost all the way up but it was still hard to hear. As I got closer to Newhall KHUG 97.5 started to come in Coming back home I heard Take Five around Reseda to Tampa off ramps then 97.5 from Goleta came back as a got closer to Simi

KLQS-LP San Fernando puts a relatively moderate signal here in the Southwest SFV, easily heard in car radios and decent portables. As of this writing (Mon 11) they're still just running a carrier wave. Prior to this stations' existence, we could actually hear KHUG from Castaic with a "listenable" signal. The Santa Clarita LP on 107.9 can also be heard in our area, and prior to KLXA 97.9 adding digital, the KHTS 1220 translator on 98.1 was receivable as well.

KHUG-LP is ID'ing as KHUG-LP Castiac/KTCN-FM Acton.

KTCN's "broadcast representative" is Todd Urick (not application certifier, just representative)

KHUG's application certifier is Henry Urick

I’ve spent the last 5 minutes reading the summary of “California FM” from that page and I still have no idea what it is he/his group wants to do, other than create a statewide broadcast/ Internet network of human “tastemakers” picking music that‘s somehow different from the music played on commercial and non commercial stations.

You've explained it better than they have and I think your understanding of their mission is every bit as specific as theirs.

97.5 San Fernando {KLQS-LP) is apparently up and running simulcasting K-HUG LP Castaic, also simulcast on KTCH Acton "Now reaching a potential 2 million listeners in the San Fernando Valley, thanks to the generous donors to K-HUG". Classic Rock centered format so far...

As I always tell my wife, "When you don't know what to play, play classic rock. You won't go wrong."

Clever wording. A potential 2-million listeners in the San Fernando Valley? Okay. Facts.

"Now reaching"?

Or is that a typo? Should it read "not reaching"?

It is really not good karma to kick an LPFM when it is down (and hasn't even had a chance to be up yet). Someone is putting their heart, soul and (probably) a large part of their net worth into it, all for the love of radio.

This is something we ought to be praising, promoting, and celebrating on this board.

Not kicking ‘em, Flip. You either reach people or you don’t. There are 2.5 million people they potentially could reach (maybe), but they aren’t reaching them yet. When they get that hundred share, let me know.

Which reminds me of a great Dr. Don Rose line:

“Every day, this program reaches hundreds of thousands of people. And we’re just glad they can’t reach us!”
