The AM would come with 2 translators; one with a CP moving it to the economically booming south Tyler. There is, potentially, some value left in this one. The whole plant for 1400 was rebuilt just a few years ago, complete with a shiny new Nautel transmitter, as well. Chuck Conrad, owner of K-DOK in nearby Kilgore, and KYZS here in the Rose City, spared no expense on the rebuild for 1400 in 2014. He had a great vision on where he wanted to take the station, but quickly ran into trouble with selling spots because he wasn't from Jacksonville himself. That problem is more common than you might think in these little towns down here.
One big issue facing 1400 right now is that it has been silent since July 2022. The FM at 95.1 has been too. The "K-Hits" format featured on both AM & FM, during Chisholm Trail's ownership of the AM, prior to this latest duration of darkness, was getting no traction in J'Ville, whatsoever. Good format that probably had a few listeners in and around Cherokee County, but all of the advertisements on the station were targeting Granbury and Stephenville, home territory of the operator. The only time J'Ville and Rusk were mentioned happened at :00. They, too, couldn't sell spots and quickly found themselves unloading it (and sister KTLU) back to Dick Witkovski. It's been silent since. KTLU has since had its own translator change primary's to KEBE and then surrendered.
