KXXR HD off air.

I noticed KXXR HD is still off after 6+ months. Does anyone know if this is permanent or just temporary? I find it odd that just a few months after launching the Love 105 simulcast on HD2 that they would just all of the sudden abandon HD operations altogether.

They might be on a backup transmitter. Most stations don't equip aux transmitters with HD capability.
I know when they were doing work last summer (and the summer prior) on Shoreview all the big FMs were on their Aux site on the IDS, but they are all back on Shoreview now. Aside from signal strength, KXXR has different processing and RDS formatting on their main site vs aux, so it’s pretty obvious when they are on their backup site. However, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of them being on a backup transmitter at Shoreview as they probably can hook the composite signal from the processor straight into another transmitter and sound quality wouldn’t change much, if at all.

Looked last night and noticed sidebands again on KXXR. Went over to the radio and they are back in HD. No subchannels as of last night, and the HD PI code (or the callsign display) is still set to the default "HD," but the metadata (at least for the RDS ads) appears to be running.
