Atlantic City/Cape May "The Jersey Giant" WMID

The Equity era is officially over. As of 12pm this afternoon, both WMID and WCMC are operating under new ownership as "The Jersey Giant". No website, social media, or streaming to confirm just yet, but so far they're playing the same mix of oldies, with nostalgic advertisements a various points in-between. They've also aired a top of the hour newscast, with traffic, sports and weather.

What do you mean by "nostalgic advertisements"? And TOH news from which service?

Do I actually have to post some type of proof or something? Quite a few people on their Facebook page didn’t even know WMID was sold and thought their livestream was geoblocked. Forgive me for being a good samaritan 🤷‍♂️

I knew about the sale of Equity's holdings. I tried to get WMID's stream the other day to no avail.

My home and the town where I work are outside WCMC's signal pattern. (I doubt if I can get WMID 1340; I've never attempted)

It’s their own news, and what do you mean by “delete”?
People who mistakenly post can edit with "delete" in the text and a moderator will, usually, remove it.

Ahh… okay. I’m still geeking a little. It was interesting… I turned on both stations this morning and 1340 am must’ve made the switch to its new owners before WCMC because they were both playing different music. I thought I was in a time warp.

Oh… and no national newscasts (at least none yet). Since the station is under WIBG ownership all of their local headlines are produced in-house.

Top of hour ID recorded on December 19, 2023:

"This is WMID Atlantic City and WCMC Wildwood The Jersey Giant"
["My Girl" - The Temptations fading out; "Born To Be Wild" - Steppenwolf fading in]

How many people can there be who still want to hear those two songs regularly? In many markets, they've been on the radio somewhere for four-plus decades (figuring in a gap between their '60s current years and the advent of oldies formats that played post-British Invasion hits).

What's the mix of music chronologically? 50s through 80s like it was under Equity? And given the season, are they playing Christmas music?

And I'm still waiting to find out what SKFlyers means by "nostalgic commercials".

With a great big thank you for the years of that huge labor of love on the station....
Well wishes.

Being on the very fringe of WCMC, thought I could faintly hear Last Christmas by George Michael earlier.
They have brought out many of the tunes we heard over the years, but have not heard right before the closing. They didn't traditionally have Christmas fare, but did have that annual half-price sale on commercials. It was a fun little station. Personally, I could do without Last Christmas.

Last Christmas might have been another 1230 signal, it was very very weak, and I can't remember them ever playing Christmas music before. Hopefully they stream again soon. With so much religious and syndicated talk programming dominating AM radio, it's impressive how 1230 and 1340 have been some type of music format for generations.

Wonder why they didn’t just use the Wibbage Gold brand and put it on at least one of the translators.

Streaming can get a little pricey, especially since they were on so many of the streaming services. I think it might have been part of that excitement and kindness to share as part of that labor of love - and maybe to show success to sell. It has been on the air since 1947.
