I believe The Edge is no more

After a few years, IHeart has changed the format of KDGE-HD2 to “Magic,” which is some English/Spanish-language AC hybrid. I prefer my alternative, but it’s a good break from Christmas music I guess.

Oh my gosh, you’re right! I did enjoy The Edge on 102.1 KDGE-HD2, although I didn’t listen as often to it as Alt 103.7 or 88.1 indie. My one pet peeve about The Edge is that they didn’t show the old logo on HD radios, the default logo was the iHeart logo.

Listening right now and it went from Starship - Sara to The Backstreet Boys - All I Have to Give with a bilingual piece of imaging with the mention of “Magic”. After The Backstreet Boys, a jingle with just “Magic” played and into Carlos Vives - Fruta Fresca and then REO Speedwagon - Take It on the Run.

So, it’s the same format as 93.9 WMIA in Miami. They are also using the same “Tus Favoritas De Siempre” slogan.

They’re still using “KDGE-HD2 Fort Worth-Dallas” from The Edge’s legal ID. One more thing, according to Wikipedia, The Edge has been on the HD2 since April 2018.

That's what I figured. I'm really hoping this is just a holidays thing, but I doubt it.
One of the qualities of The Edge I liked was while most other IHeart alternative stations played Out of Order on Sunday evenings, The Edge and WJRR-HD3 would play songs that wouldn't normally be played on the master log. WJRR-HD3 would focus more on underground stuff while The Edge focused on more 90s alternative such as Cake, Jane's Addiction and Gin Blossoms.
Alright, rant over.

The only part I didn’t care about 102.1 HD2 The Edge (never got a chance to listen to the original Edge) was when they added the generic iHeart voice tracks. I may be wrong, but I believe they were jockless for quite some time. I know it’s an HD2 only station, but I’d rather have no voice tracks than generic ones. Same goes for The Eagle on 97.1 HD2.

And I think if this was a temporary format, they could’ve turned 102.9 HD2 back on and put it there…

I also just realized that we now have a Magic on 102.1 HD2 and Majic 94.5…

Here’s my car’s display with the Magic logo:

i think this means IHeart must be getting rid the KDGE calls soon and maybe The Edge calls and IPs to someone else to revive the Edge. i laugh if that happens and the legendary KVIL calls get retired and 103.7 becomes "The Edge" with the KDGE calls too.

iHeart has other stations that could use KDGE letters. They have a rock station in Little Rock called The Edge.

There are lots of other Edge branded stations around the country, including Albuquerque. Not just Dallas.

I guess three alternative stations were too many. Lol. I am quite surprised that they pulled a 0.2 on an HD2 only signal with no promotion and streaming. It would’ve been neat if iHeart could’ve resurrected the Edge as a classic alternative and see what would’ve happened. Maybe if iHeart could’ve gotten a couple translators.

I usually call KNTU "Alt 88.1 The Edge. Maybe they can use the rename. But it's possible that 103.7 could use the "Edge" name. Or most likely, 88.1, 91.7, 97.1 HD2, and 103.7 just keep their names and no rebranding. Maybe Alt could bring back "Edgefest" or the "Adventure Club." Who knows?

As much as I haven't listened to radio in a long while, 103.7 is the winner of all in my books but sad to see "The Edge" go away a second time. But as mentioned, it did pull some sort of rating with no promotion, which is impressive. Now with Magic, I had a slight hope that the old "Majic 102" with a rhythmic AC format came back. But lets see what bilingual AC can do to the DFW audience.

Funny that we have Magic 102.1 HD2 and Majic 94.5.

I think that’s exactly what’s going to happen

I like the idea of a classic alternative. In fact, IHeart’s newly launched Alt X/The Buzz feed would be fine.

103.7 had a local hour a few years back. Hosted by Mark Schectman of “Adventure Club.” They gave up on that in 2021. Let KXT promote the locals, they can take the risk. Also, 103.7 is doing their own Edgefest with “Alterium.” I don’t see them bothering with Edge branding.
