TEGNA drops the ax on Twist

TEGNA’s Twist diginet will shutter at the end of 2023: Twist

Will be interesting to see what TEGNA does with KHOU/KTBU here in Houston, as Twist is simulcast on 11.4 (via KTBU) and 11.8 (KHOU.) Also closing at the end of the year is Circle, which is on KHOU 11.5. So three subchannels that might get new programming.

Kansas City, MO just barely had this diginet as KCWE only carried it for about at least a few months instead of over a year due, I think, to technical difficulties.

Most of the time, when tuning into KCWE-TV, Ch. 29.3, on my HDHomerun tuners, all I would see is a channel that had no data.

Sister station, KMBC-TV, Ch. 9 is also supposed to be carrying the Charge! diginet on Ch. 9.4, however they are also having the same technical diffuculties.

It's surprising (not so surprising) that these types of channels would end early for lack of interest but surprised that TBD hasn't shut down or change their focus.

At moment blank Twist KCWE.

Let's be honest. Most of the diginets are garbage. Old, time compressed programming with little viewer interest wrapped around frequent long commercial breaks for life insurance, walk in tubs, and magical cures for joint pain. This is a good thing...thin the herd!
FAST streaming services have just about made diginets obsolete, except for the biggies like MeTV.

Twist was a redundant network to begin with. But, I don't think any of the TEGNA diginets are doing well.

I'm not surprised that Twist is shutting down I don't think Comcast or Charter Spectrum had Twist as it was WZZM DT5 I don't get why they didn't drop weather channel to DT5 and move True Crime Network & Quest to DT2/3. Quest is on channel 175 on Charter Spectrum and True Crime Network channel 181.

KPNX in Phoenix has replaced replaced Twist on 12.5 with an HD feed of True Crime Network in addition to the SD feed of True Crime Network on 12.3 they already had.

Twist has now disappeared from KHOU/KTBU, both the 11.4 and 11.8 subchannels are blank. Circle still going on 11.5.

Pretty much this as a lot of diginets are airing bottom of the barrel reality programs and what not as Twist was doing. And time compressed is right, I’ve seen whole segments of sitcom episodes edited out on some of these services. It’s almost better just to watch as is on actual streaming platforms.

They probably would be better off deleting the subchannel completely and returning that bandwidth to the .1 station. On the other hand, that would not be the best look in their fight with DirecTV.

I wouldn't be waiting with abated breath if I were you. Some sources they might not get replaced with anything at all

Meanwhile Classic Tv & live gavel to gavel coverage of trials (With FAR TOO OFTEN THE SAME TRIAL) on TWO DIFFERENT networks live on :D

I just turned on my antenna this morning for the first time in months. Tegna replaced Twist on WTIC 61.5 with another feed on The True Crime Network. This feed fills the entire screen while the feed on 61.4 does not.

If Twist was on cable in my area I'd be mad about the duplication, but it wasn't. We have Comet on two channels in cable because it's on both Tegna's 20.3 and Nexstar's 59.2 (where it replaced Grit, which moved to 20.2 after Court TV moved to WHPX 26.3).

Ever since Court TV moved to 26.3 it is no longer on cable. COX has never carried any of the ION subchannels going back to when their subchannels included the now defunct ION Life/ION Plus and Qubo.

After Bounce moved from Nexstar's WTNH 8.2 to WHPX 26.2 COX added the national fees of Bounce rather than 26.2

As mentioned previously COX also doesn't carry any LPTV stations. They carry WWAX-LD 27.1 only because it's also on WFSB 3.4 - they don't carry WWAX's subchannels 27.2 Charge!, 27.3 Eyewitness News Now, or 27.4 Fido TV.

Entravision sold the spectrum of WUVN channel 18 and it now channel shares with WUTH-CD and once that happened COX replaced WUVN and WUTH (which was on 18.3) with the national feeds of Univision and UniMas.

Me-TV is on Weigel's WHCT-LD 35.1 in the market and COX carries the national feed of Me-TV instead and none of channel 35's subchannels, which are the other Weigel owned networks. We only have Story TV on COX because they're on Weigel's WZME 43.1 out of Bridgeport and is a NYC market station.

Here in Central Kentucky:
WTVQ Lexington has dropped Twist from 36.4, and for now is blank.
WHAS Louisville has replaced Twist with True Crime on 11.5
Not sure about Cincinnati

In Memphis, it was on WATN on 24.4. It’s gone now, and Quest which was on 24.6 has moved to 24.4, and it skips from 24.5 to 24.7 with 24.6 missing. I really hope they will put Catchy or Dabl on 24.6. Never watched Twist anyways.
