In suburban NYC, hearing 1520, WARR Warrenton, N.C. all evening today. They’re a 5k day, 1k critical hours station that’s up way past their bedtime.
Lots of R&B and jazz from WARR, providing a musical over and under accompaniment to CBS Sports Radio on Buffalo’s WWKB. Guessing WARR never dropped to CH power, and are likely running the full daytime 5kw.

A few very random catches from pre-dawn (east central Iowa) this morning:
WAKR 1590 Akron (which seems to have dropped news/talk for soft AC)
WVNN 770 Athens, AL
WLIK 1270 Newport TN
KBHS 1420 Hot Springs, AR
KWKH 1130 Shreveport -- not a new one, but I haven't heard it in years

Earlier, this a.m., KEJB Eureka 1480 was in at a noisy S3+, with local weather, several local spots, and a couple oldies. KBMS Portland -- maybe 300 miles closer, and on the same channel -- was MIA. A spot check of the X band produced nothing. Odd conditions. 1340 was static with a talk station that was unreadable. A few mornings back it was SRS graveyard conditions with KBBR North Bend Oregon (a surprise).

SW was OK. Mostly a couple strong Asians.

Location Seattle region. PR-D4W + loop on MW, RF-B45 and an XHDATA on SW + indoor wire.

As a kid with a clock radio, me vacationing with the family in Norfolk VA heard WAKR atop 1590 on a few overnight DX sessions. Dave Davis 'The Lonely One' was the AN DJ. I later found out that WAKR *does* send a good-glob lobe that way, right at Tidewater.

Just last night I came across one additional catch for the old Queens NYC list, archaeologized from another gas mileage / trip log / good-songs-heard / DX note / looseleaf binder.
That was a station I heard out on Long Island's South Shore for the first time just before moving to here for good in NE PA. It carried straight, solid west reception (except for some hash from WFAN on the Belt Parkway through the old Totals Neighborhood) all the way through NJ and into the new digs, off the Nova car radio -- WWJZ from Mt. Holly NJ. Lol -- that gives me 6 stations on 640 back in Queens, albeit following an official Instant Replay that only took 30 years to be called.

9pm AK 12/23 with ad for Kia Dealer in OKC on 1520khz into network news. Good at times, alone... other times mixing with KKXA Everett, WA. 3077 miles

905pm AK 12/23 English talk on 1200khz rising above south asian Punjabi music coming from Vancouver..... then a nice, clear fairly alone on the channel mention of WOAI and San Antonio. 3400 miles.

Nice catch. WARR Warrenton plays a lot of specialty blocks...gospel, R&B, some jazz, sometimes smooth jazz. There's also a smattering of southern soul music, which is fun to listen to - urban AC stations won't play southern soul, for the most part. I recommend streaming it.

And Paul...awesome catches from OK and TX up in Alaska!!! WOAI is an easy grab here, probably the strongest Texas station I get.
I wonder if you could snag BIN KKGM on 1630 one of these nights...or the two 1700s in Texas?

Never have, but anythings possible.... if my furthest east north american log is CFAJ 1220... anything is possible

Wow, where I am doesn't seem particularly good for DXing, especially to the east, because I'm in a valley with lots of EMI which sometimes gets so bad that most of the MW band and parts of the lower HF bands get completely jammed.

And, when things are relatively open, some of the more interesting frequencies get buried in slop from adjacent locals.

It's frustrating for sure.

Last night, had an unid 1470 with Christmas music (Celine Dion, Leroy Anderson, etc.) pointing towards the east but the IDs were buried underneath KELA. I'm hoping this is a much-needed log from KKTY Douglas WY. Will try again tonight.
PSA: Many news/talk stations will go all-Christmas tonight, some with the Mannheim Steamroller program, others with locally-originated programming. Several are 50KW blasters.

Tonight is Christmas Eve, and conditions are still southerly at times. Not much from the east so far. CBK is not coming in on 540, for example, and 790 is occupied by a strong KFPT Clovis with ESPN Radio.
820 XEABCA Mexicali all alone with Regional Mexican music. No KGNW and not even a trace of WBAP.
My mystery Christmas music station is back on 1470 but weak underneath KELA Centralia.

Christmas music on KSL tonight.

Hearing 1100 WTAM with a weak but listenable signal in the N-NE partial null of local KDRY.

Also, 1080 KRLD’s IBOC is apparently off for the first time in a while. Instead of the usual hash on 1070, I’m hearing a mix of KNTH in Houston, KWEL in Midland, and especially KFTI in Wichita, which is playing classic country Christmas music.

Sitting on the W0AY SDR in Stevensville MT now. I drove by this town earlier this year on my trips to Montana. 1590 is a mix of KLFE Seattle and KVGB Great Bend KS, both with Christmas music. 1550 KXEX Fresno is popping in and out with KKOV/KZDG...I have never heard KXEX here in WA. Valley Fitness commercial.

KOKC is operating with its directional pattern, but its only doing 12.5KW as they await the license to cover to go to 50kw after rebuilding the array after a tornado collapsed 2 towers years ago

Some graveyard logs from the Stevensville MT SDR:

1230 KBAR Burley ID with Fox News, weather forecast at 12:05AM MT 12/25/23 (Prev. heard in WA)
1400 KKTL Casper WY 'Reindeer Radio' mentioning 101.9, 12:12AM MT 12/25. This one has not been heard in WA.

1380 KLPZ Parker AZ "You're listening to KLPZ AM 1380, Parker..." 12:15AM MT 12/25. Mixed with KOTA Rapid City, with Mannheim Steamroller's An American Christmas. I heard KOTA on my trip to Missoula back in April.

@Ex-RadioTV

Was exactly 12 years ago at SSS that WARR from North Carolina was coming in atop 1520 here -- also with no trace of 'KB from Buffalo.
At the time, WARR was airing some Gospel programming, an energetic revival sort of show. I took some copy and sent them a nice reception report. Never heard back from them. No idea how they regard QSL'ing, or if perhaps steer clear of such matters after neglecting to power down. But it was the last reception report I ever sent to any station.
The missing WKBW is a puzzler, though. One late afternoon I thought that a new local had come on the air in nearby Pottsviile, An idle dial-tune of the GE SR 2 there brought in locals WPPA 1360 .... WPAM 1450 .... and a real loud one past them -- and I mean smothering LOUD. Like it was a few blocks away. It IDed as 'KB, Buffalo.
Nice catch for you there, though! WARR, amid that NYC-area dial and a snoring, hibernating WWKBW, just like what 1520 must've sounded like here in NEPA 12 years ago !

740 CFZM from Toronto, Canada playing Christmas oldies and
840 WHAS from Louisville, Kentucky playing Christmas music, both came in clearer than usual last night.

A treat under the tree tonight. NEW LOG!

1060 - KTNS CA, Oakhurst; with Regional Mexican music, ID mentioning 100.5, KTNS AM Oakhurst, 2057 PT 12/25/23. Been looking for this one for years! NEW #837, very likely 5KW day power at 642 miles. Mostly alone on the channel, with no sign of South Dakota.
