Diginet shuffle

Twist has already been yanked from WKYC 3.5 and is now a simulcast of 3.2/True Crime.
Yup, surprised unlike what Gray's doing with Circle, there was no advanced notice of any kind from TEGNA of this switch happening as it's clearly them pulling the plug as the same situation is here in Phoenix with KPHX 12.5 simulcasting 12.3. I only knew of this from my mom who likes watching Twist during the day as we've been cord cutters since moving over here from NYC back in July of last year & turns out it's a huge deal with all the Phoenix sports teams transferring TV broadcast rights (sans D'backs) to OTA.

I wonder if Tegna has a new diginet they will debut next year or if WKYC comes to terms with the Nest or other diginet not in the market yet?
Frank Macek of WKYC has informed me that there are no immediate plans for a replacement network, so 3.5 will likely simulcast 3.2 for the time being until another network is picked up.

Let him know that The Nest (reality) is available and a similar diginet to the old Twist. Unless someone in the market already picked up The Nest, which we may find out January 1.

There doesn't appear to be any TEGNA stations out there that carry The Nest, so at this time it is unlikely that WKYC will pick up the network. Also, I'm told that their affiliation decisions are made by TEGNA themselves and not by their individually owned stations, so suggesting a network to WKYC probably won't do much of anything, unless someone there forwards your suggestion to the company.

I don't think WJW will add anymore Sinclair networks. That was a deal done during the Tribune ownership. If anything, one of the HC2 stations may pick up The Nest.

It was listed on one of the low power HC2 stations here, but never showed up. Maybe it will on January 1st, when Outlaw debuts on a few of the HC2 stations locally?

That was probably WEKA-LD 41.1, which used to carry Stadium. Sinclair no longer distributes Stadium OTA, and most of its former affiliates switched to The Nest. However, it appears that HC2 did not update their provider listings after they dropped Stadium from WEKA-LD, which explains why it falsely lists The Nest, as the main program guide for Stadium was simply swapped out.

It's possible that HC2 may eventually pick up this network on another one of their Cleveland stations. For now, the network can be streamed from their website.

True...But the same can be said about cable. Also, it's too bad some cable stations would feel ashamed if they dropped 24 hour programming.

Really...How many reruns of Sportscenter need to be aired overnight?
Yes, there are way too many cable channels as well. Of course many of them air live or tape delayed programs, such as news, weather, business, sporting events, etc., whereas most of the diginets are airing old TV shows. I just have to wonder how much longer Me TV will air MASH, Andy Griffith, etc. I would think even the most loyal fans of those shows are getting tired of watching them.

As long as METV can remain "The TV Land of the Golden age generation" I doubt their schedule will change much. Despite having an abundance of cable channels, I find myself staying with the digitals (but not the main channel). I'd rather see an episode of The Rifleman or M*A*S*H for the 24 time in my lifetime, than most of the shows on the regular 3, 5, and 8's. Now I sound like I'm showing my age.

When I delivered the Cleveland Press in the late 1970's, it was actually strange that my older retiree customers were getting accustomed to TV for really the first time. Worked and didn't have time and/or couldn't afford TV in the 1960's. It's like they'd say "Did you see that 'new show' Andy Griffith?" when it was just returning to TV after being away awhile.

Cox/Rovi shows 19.3 as "The 365" on the first. Outlaw is still 43.2. Maybe "The Circle" should've done "The Twist" six weeks ago.

I don't have cable, just the OTA channels. The only ones I normally watch are Me TV, Antenna TV and Heroes and Icons (and just for combat on Saturday night). I work during the day so I can only watch TV in the evening. Once I retire and able to watch during the day, maybe I can watch a few other diginets.

Rewind TV just updated their affiliates page, and WOIO 19.4 is now off the list with no replacement. Guess WJW is too cheap to carry a network that's owned and operated by their parent company, much like how they passed on This TV during that time when both the network and WJW were owned by Tribune. Perhaps WKYC may pick them up at some point on 3.5 as Rewind TV has a few TEGNA affiliates.

Dabl 19.3 flipped to its new format today. Basically old UPN shows, with a focus on African-American comedies and the slogan "Get Into It".

So when all was said and done, Outlaw is now on 19.4 (as well as low power stations WEKA 41.7 and KONV 28.6) and The 365 is on 43.2

The 365 is kinda the same - they have some sitcoms, but they also have a block of Judge Mathis reruns in the afternoon and movies at night.

The labels are reversed, or the affiliations are. 19.4 says The365 and 43.2 says Outlaw, but the airing networks are flipped. This is also reflected in the channel listings as well. Both networks essentially compete with Johnathan Katz's original networks, Bounce and Grit (which were both carried on WUAB at one time), which he sold off to Scripps back in 2017. Neither one looks interesting and doesn't bring a format that has not already been utilized for OTA.

While I'm not a fan of the new Dabl, I do give them some credit for their family friendly lineup. Almost every show/movie on Bounce carries a TV14 rating, consisting of violence, language, and other questionable material. Dabl is keeping it clean at the moment, though they really need a wider selection of shows.

It's very sad that there isn't much family friendly programming on TV anymore. Seems like every program contains raunchy vulgar content with loaded with sexual and genital references.

I think they flipped the networks due to Dabl on 19.3 changing formats.

If they left The 365 on 19.4, you'd then have 2 networks with basically the same format back-to-back, so they put Outlaw on 19.4 to have the change of pace.

I think it comes down to 43.2 having cable coverage on multiple providers, and that they wanted The365 to have that coverage upon launch. 19.4 doesn't have any at this time.

I'm not sure if the folks at WOIO/WUAB knew about the changes at Dabl. If they did, then they were probably told to keep quiet about it as the only indication about the change was the upcoming program listings. There were no websites documenting or announcing its format change, except for Cord Cutter News.
