This aggravatingly elusive regional-power station is 52 miles virtually due north of me. I've never heard them here at home, using average radios, good ones, great ones and car radios.
I have to ask if they're running their 5000/1000 powers. Or even if they're on the air anymore!
Their Radio-Locator day coverage is a sort of triangle with rounded points. A thumbnail (decidedly( non-tech guess is that they send maybe 3000 watts this way.
On that map I'm 1/4-inch east of the 'n' in Shamokin. So this den is pretty much co-linear between Tunkhannock and Harrisburg. All I get here in the day is the 5K omni sports station from Harrisburg, with not a peep out of anything remotely identifiable under them.
I did catch them one afternoon in Hazleton a few years ago -- 18 miles closer to 'em -- playing several oldies songs // WNAK 730, but that reception was amid a ton of hash from what had to've been very near WAZL 1490's stick.
Three other reasons I inquire:
1) A 1450 local here signed off years ago, which should have changed things. Nope. Not a bit.
2) Visiting in-laws in Scranton one night a few years ago, I got nothing even vaguely close to a signal -- despite the in-laws' house being right smack in the main southeast nighttime 1000-watt lobe.
3) The Scranton-area SDR dial here in Favourites gives its receiver location as Spring Brook, about maybe 5 miles southeast of Scranton, yet still right in that main nighttime lobe. Yet WGMM is a complete no-show at night, and indistinct in the day.
Lol -- on 1460 here in the house I've heard Rochester, Albany, Harrisburg, West Virginia, metro Boston and Pontiac Michigan. But not the closest station on the frequency! Is anyone here who is closer to the scene up that way give me some info on this facility?
