From what I can see they're showing this in the same category with 12 volt car MP3 transmitters. This is definitely not in the same category, which shows Amazon either doesn't check items listed for accuracy or they don't care if it's illegal as long as they can make a buck off of it, and I tend to believe the latter.

I can see a need for something like this for small coverage areas, but the power level is definitely way too high and illegal. But these are probably sold to people who don't know or don't care that it's illegal.
 
There are no certification requirements on antennas. Only on transmitters and EAS. I would steer clear of the FM USER and other copycats of the BKG-77 from China as they are cheaply made and may not withstand certain environments too well.

Respectfully, where is the ”great news" you speak of? That someone messed up and put in the wrongs coordinates in the application or that Dan will be the on LPFM in Selman? With that mindset, should there only be one barber, service station, restaurant, convenience store, welding shop, etc in Selman as well?

This is the same dude that recently had an illegal pirate on at 87.9 FM. I celebrate because we'll have one less lawbreaker on the air. Knowing this man, like I think I do, this broadcast would've been ran like a full powered FM and all kinds of rules would've been broken. A.K.A Possibly selling ads and broadcasting with more power, than allowed by law.

"Allegedly" had a illegal pirate on 87.1,,,was he sent a letter from the FCC? This is America sir,,we are innocent until proven guilty. Unless you have a crystal ball, you have no idea of what he would of done. This may of been just what Selman wanted/needed, another LPFM that actually cared & listened to what the community wanted, instead of what you want to air. I have a good friend out there, who has his hand on the "pulse" of Selman. Respectfully, he would not be on this forum, constantly asking for free computers/transmitters/antennas.
 
When I discovered his pirate, I tuned in and wanted to learn more. I kept on listening and started my process of reporting him. Told my friends Mr. Paul Alexander (WALX) and Mr. Chris Johnson, my engineer from Clanton, about it. Me and Mr. Paul kept on listening to see if we could find out who was involved. A few days later, I was able to find out who it was. After that, Mr. Paul confronted him through a phone call and told him he was breaking the law. My engineer also confronted him and told him his broadcast was illegal and he needed to shut it down. After that final call, he did just that.

P.S. Mr. Paul told me what this man would've done, with his LPFM, had he been allowed to build it. That's why I made those statements.​

I'm curious. Do you know Mr. Williams? Have you met him and taken the time to talk and get to know him? Or is it all back fence talk between you and your buddies?

P.S.: The attachment you referenced appears to be from January but not a response to their latest appeal.

Pretty much avoid auction and marketplace websites that sell antennas and transmitters. Amazon, eBay and yes, even Walmart!

Stick with reputable vendors such as SCMS, BGS, BSW, even Progressive Concepts... just stay away from the offshore sellers.
 
Appears that Weather Alert Radio Network, which had applied for dozens of LPFMs, is now withdrawing all its CP requests…but is also making some noise about a streamlined application process. Each of the withdrawal exhibits include the same language:

“The Weather Alert Radio Network is unilaterally withdrawing this application to streamline processing for its entire public safety application proposal.
The applicant has neither been promised nor received any consideration, directly or indirectly, in connection with this withdrawal.”

So what are they trying to do here? Or do they not understand the “one to a customer” rule?

From what we can see, WARN is currently culling out applications that they filed for different channels in the same community, they are currently still leaving one behind for each of the affected communities.

WARN is attempting to obtain multiple stations using the public safety loophole, which is really intended for state and county governments, however the rules do allow private sector non-profits to apply, however the rules state that in order to demonstrate localism, the organization needs to have "jurisdiction" to provide public safety services in the area being served and as such, they can have as many stations as they want in their jurisdiction. Applications, except for one designated as a "priority" application, that are mutually exclusive will be dismissed off the top, normally at the time of the point hearings, which will start later this year. WARN has provided no specific contracts or covenants with the county or state jurisdictions they are proposing service in. If any of these reach public notice, they will most likely be challenged.

WARN originally applied for 213 LPFM stations.

Interestingly, the sellers of this system claim to be "FCC certificated":

Nothing is quite as convincing as a claim of FCC certification that is made in very badly translated English.
 
I prefer Nautel because of the extensive processing in the unit and that they can be called and connect to your transmitter to help identify any issues you are having. Really, if you buy a transmitter and then processing, the price is about equal to the Nautel price.
