Linda Wertheimer Retires

Linda has been semi-retired for a very long time. She served as a substitute host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered in the 2010s, often taking on difficult-to-staff holiday periods, like the week of Thanksgiving.

But, according to npr.org, her most recent appearances on the air were obituaries for George Bush and Cokie Roberts, along with a flashback to Watergate as Congress began impeachment hearings in 2019.

Linda Wertheimer will turn 80 in a couple of weeks, so it's probably a good milestone to step down. Her friend Nina Totenberg also just turned 80, and is presently on the sidelines after a major surgery last month.

Linda's husband is 85. Susan Stamberg is also 85, and is still identified as a special correspondent. She does several stories a year. I think the last one was about the painting Whistler's Mother. It's an amazing thing that these legends continue to work, and have a place for their work to be heard.
