FM Frequency of the Week: 95.1

Manistee, MI: A fairly steady signal from WLST Marinette, WI.

Grand Rapids, MI: A very weak mix of WIIL Union Grove, WI and WFBE Flint, MI, with WLST making rare appearances.

East Tennessee(Knoxville/Seviervillle): Weak but pesky translator W236BA for WBLC, Lenoir City. Before the translator signed on it was WGGC, Goober 95.1, Bowling Green KY

Kenosha, WI- Local WIIL, now licensed to Union Grove, WI, a "move" that a former owner made to get it out of the Chicago market to circumvent ownership caps. 50,000 watts about 3 miles from me. Originally WLIP-FM, then WJZQ for many years.

Over the years when the local has been off or I'm far enough away I have heard WLST Marinette, WI (BIG signal at the WI-MI border), WPTH Fort Wayne, IN (now WAJI), and WFBE Flint, MI.

Denver, CO: It's a mess.

I'm not that far away from Commerce City, so translator K236CQ (rebroadcasting 670 KLTT) licensed to that city should be what dominates, but the reality is that the translator's physical location is farther to the north and east, so it has a fairly weak signal at my location. Moreover, Crawford has applied to reduce K236CQ's power from 250 to 150 watts. This is to allow a power increase for another Crawford translator, K237CC. See my post in the Denver-Boulder forum at https://www.radiodiscussions.com/threads/k237gg-klvz-and-k236cq-kltt-changes.769989/ - more observations on 95.3 when that frequency comes up for discussion.

Also coming in here at 95.1 is a weak KATC, "Cat Country" from Colorado Springs.

Goober?
In my part of metro Columbus, 95.1 is pretty much static now that Star 95.1, at one time the translator for WMNI-AM, has moved to 94.1. Across the northern part of the metro and definitely once you head into Delaware County, it's WVXG from Mount Gilead. Part of the Delmar family of stations.
According to the Columbus thread that concerns Delmar and the end of one of our alt rock stations, WVXG is gaining Cincinnati Reds broadcasts from one of its sister stations this coming season.

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs):

Usually WZZO from Bethlehem. In tropo, WAYV from AC, WRBS from Baltimore or I-95 from Connecticut would
sometimes appear here.

Wilmington Delaware

Fair to Good signal from WAYV Atlantic City NJ with Hot AC. According to Radio-Locator I shouldn't be hearing it all but my SE facing 4th floor apartment probably helps.

95.1 is NOTHING...absolutely nothing, on dead band conditions. This is one of my best frequencies for FM DX. The only dead-band FMs I've heard were knife-edge/line-of-sight well into the Cascades, at 6000+ feet. KITI Winlock WA, KSND Monmouth OR, and (at Lion Rock above Ellensburg, and Manastash Lake), K236AP Synarep relaying KNCW...with only *one watt*! I have also heard the KNCW translator at Twisp from Mt. Lillian, 12 mi south of Wenatchee overlooking the valley at 6200 feet. That is also 1 w ERP, 74 miles distance.

E-skip: Too many to count, but the best FM log I've ever made was from this frequency. KYKR Beaumont TX, on 7/20/23, double-hop at 1830 miles. Heard at the same time was KQXY Q94, also Beaumont. Last new Es log made on 95.1 was here in the dead of winter, 1/22/24, KSQY Deadwood SD.

Goober?

Yep Goober. I logged Goober in the Dayton area, along with several other stations from Southern KY and Southwestern Virginia during a period featuring hot, stagnant air.

Wichita, KS: None other than T95/KICT.

Parsons, KS: A weaker KMXL Carthage/Joplin, MO. About 51 miles to the east.

Clifton, New Jersey

I get W236CH "The Bridge" Fort Greene, NY, which is an FM translator that simulcasts WRDR Freehold, NJ. I can get WRKI "I95" Brookfield, CT depending on the spot and propagation. I have received WAYV Atlantic City, NJ many times during tropo.

Central Kansas:
Nothing but a strong signal from KICT/Wichita. So far, I’ve yet to receive anything else, even during tropo.

North Iowa:
A weak signal from KCZE/New Hampton, and some occasional reception of KUSQ/Worthington.

I swear 95.1 was just featured in the FM FOTW recently...

Anyways, this is FM translator K236CH, rebroadcasting 1510 KWJB Canton, Texas as Classic Hits "95.1 The Bee".
