Bakersfield KNXT-LD channel 6 Bakersfield

KNXT-LD channel 6 in Bakersfield has filed to enter into a channel sharing agreement with Vita Broadcasting's KIFR-TV (Visalia-Fresno). The KNXT-LD bitstream would be incorporated into KIFR's and TV6 Bakersfield would be shutdown. This requires a waiver of the 30-mile merger rule.

This mjght open up some additional NCE FM opportunities (expansion, LPFM, translators, etc.) as the FM folks will not have to worry about channel 6 separation in Bakersfield. KIFR transmits from Blue Ridge along with KTFF-TV , KLXY and KDUV FMs.

The underlying issue claimed is ATSC 1.0's inability to handle electrical noise.

Details here:

*Narrative on MY53 history and hopes to increase coverage. Request to expedite.

*Technical goodies

I don't know if this is going to fly at the FCC.

KNXT-LD signal contours (from fccinfo.org)
KIFR signal contours, which would also become KNXT-LD's (again, from fccinfo.org)

I don't think that big a shift in service area is going to be acceptable.

Today, the original license of KNXT-LD Channel 6 Bakersfield was submitted for cancellation. KNXT-LD is now part KFIR-DT channel 22 in a channel-sharing arrangement. Let's see what Bakersfield area NCE files to crank up their power.
