For those of you keeping score at home, the proud brand NASH is down from 36 to 7, N-I 45 to 18. any guesses when the last one of each drops the label?

Nash Icon would seem to have more long-term life, including a few non-Cumulus stations that carry the programming. A handful of Nash Icons, however, have dropped that label, too, despite essentially remaining Nash Icon programming. KJJY in Des Moines is among them.

I was actually surprised that KJJY's sister, KHKI, still has the Nash label. Having calls KHKI while being in actual Hawkeye Country and not using that seems dumb to me.

The Iowa State Cyclones are closer, and Drake University is a big deal within Des Moines itself. One treads carefully.

Just as a reminder, this whole thing was the brainchild of the long-gone John Dickey, as an attempt to create a brand with stations, programming, video, digital all built around that one word. It all really ended with his departure. Mary Berner made it clear that stations were free to return to their previous local branding if it got them better ratings. So one by one, they did what she said.
