Has WZGX Bessemer finally returned from the dead?

I heard a very faint signal today on 1450 AM, a station playing contemporary christian music. I heard a mention of WAY FM so I suspected this might be WZGX, given the only other station I'm aware of near my area broadcasting on 1450 is WDNG in Anniston which programs a classic rock format. I also remembered that several years ago the plan for 1450 AM was to use it as the originating station for W256CD (99.1 FM) licensed to Fultondale (of course that never materialized and W256CD was sold to WAY-FM, now known as Hope Media). I did catch the legal ID despite the audio being highly difficult to hear. The ID mentioned WBHJ HD3 which airs WAY-FM and is used to rebroadcast over Birmingham's 99.1. The TOH ID also mentioned 106.3 FM licensed to Warrior (W292EI). There was another station mentioned in between WBHJ HD3 and the Warrior FM. I will have to check it again at the TOH; it may have been WZGX given.

i'm taking this programming is just some stopgap measure to legally keep WZGX's license active?
 
I checked TOH ID again. The missing info was just the call sign of W292EI given. There was no mention of WZGX.
 
I bet it's just a stopgap, but it'll be worth monitoring. As useless as the station is in this day and age I'd hate to see it go away due to sheer negligence.

One of my earliest "radio memories" was listening to it while passing through Bessemer on I-20/59, coming from Tuscaloosa to visit family, and being able to see the tower from the highway. That was back when it was still country WSMQ.

WZGX would need an FM translator to survive.

The Reynolds now own W224CK at 92.7 FM licensed to Vestavia Hills. Could that possibly be the piece of the missing puzzle...rebroadcasting WZGX on 92.7?Iheart is currently leasing the translator for its Black Informaton Network but if that lease were to expire and not be renewed...
 
Update: I did just note that FCC record for W224CK shows the license was transferred to Avondale Metal Works (Reynolds) back in Oct of last year but there is no info regarding a sale consummation. Hmmm...
 
The TOH station ID this morning does mention WZGX-AM Bessemer along with WBHJ HD3 and W292EI.

Never mind. I found the application filed for the sale consummation for W224CK on 1/9.
