They preempted that for this?

The NCAA March Madness tournament is airing on CBS this week and next week which means both Wheel and Jeopardy airing on Thursday and Friday nights during the tournament will be either moved or preempted in many U.S. markets including Boston but since WBZ is airing NCAA March Madness since it is a CBS O&O station, they are moving both Wheel and J! over to WSBK during the NCAA tournament but the real chances are that my Bell Fiber Op might opt to switch WSBK over to CTV 2 Atlantic to simsub "The Big Bang Theory" in place of the former since I've seen that happen before. I remember that as last year when WSBK chose to air TBBT instead of Wheel during the NCAA March Madness tournament when my Bell Fiber Op switched WSBK to simsub CTV 2 Atlantic. Let's just hope it doesn't happen again this year.
I always assumed most ABC affiliates ran Jeopardy/Wheel.

Not always. Three CBS affiliates close to me (WFMY Greensboro, WDBJ Roanoke, and WBTW Florence, SC) run Wheel and Jeopardy!.
Another CBS o&o, KTVT Dallas/Fort Worth, also has them both...and the Metroplex is a market where the ABC affiliate, WFAA, used to carry them.

In Des Moines Iowa Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune air on WHO 13 an NBC affiliate. Jeopardy airs from 3-4pm and Wheel of Fortune at 6:30pm. Wheel has aired since 1990 on channel 13 but Jeopardy always bounced around from the ABC and CBS affiliates but has been on WHO 13 for awhile now.

CBS News had a special news bulletin this afternoon at 2:00 PM about Princess Kate being diagnosed with Cancer that came on during a NCAA basketball tournament game on CBS today.

At the same time ABC and NBC also interrupted their programming with the same news bulletin.

Has there ever been any other live sporting events on network tv that were interrupted by a special news bulletin?

Why would a news bulletin about Kate having cancer be necessary in the U.S.?

Of course there have.

There have been & btw, no game action between Northwestern/Florida Atlantic was missed as it was aired during a media timeout. ABC & NBC meanwhile, depending on where you are, was airing news-related programming with GMA3 & NBC News Now on respectively.

The 2003 Iraq war started as the tourney was starting. Several early round games were moved to ESPN so CBS could run news coverage.
And who can forget the pursuit of OJ Simpson in the white Bronco sharing a split screen with NBA basketball?
More recently, the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden happened during ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.

Due to the length of the basketball coverage (largely to Northwestern/Florida Atlantic going to overtime in Game 1 today), KPHO (Phoenix) & I'm sure other affiliates in MT/PT joined The Price is Right in progress.

With tonight's Charlotte Round of 32 2-game slate running long, not finishing until around 10:40 Eastern, CBS bumped a new episode of 48 Hours off in the ET/CT likely to next week. Interestingly, at least here in Phoenix (KPHO), they showed the new episode of 48 Hours before the 10PM news, so it's possible viewers in the MT/PT on CBS could've seen the new episode of 48 Hours tonight.

So did 48 Hours air after the NCAA tournament or did it just get pushed to next week?

In ET/CT, local news aired, but here in the West, we saw 48 Hours. Assuming it'll air next week for the benefit of those in the East who didn't catch it. I believe we had a similar situation last year, in that case the new episode of 48 Hours wasn't seen out West as many affiliates here opted to fill the hour with news/local programming.

Tonight, Wednesday March 27, 2024 on WHO 13 (NBC) in Des Moines Iowa they are airing The Caitlin Clark Effect: Changing the Game at 6:30pm moving Wheel of Fortune to 2:30am.

Finally, a week late, we are told when "Jeopardy" will air. I looked on the listings with my TiVo and never found it listed.

Last week something went wrong with my recording from my usual channel. The other TiVo would have recorded, if there had not been a game, but it was not told when the episode would actually be on.

On April 8 both CBS and ABC will air solar eclipse specials at 2pm ET which will preempt The Talk and General Hospital, respectively.

CBS’ lasts an hour and a half, ABC’s 2 hours. CBS’ will also preempt LMAD in the markets where it airs at 3pm/2pm CT. I imagine they will air a rerun at 10am.

It’s set up to where the Mountain Time affiliates will likely air Bold and the Beautiful at 1:30 MT, an hour later than usual, after the news special and the Pacific Time stations will likely air Y&R at 1 PT after B&B because the special will be airing in Y&R’s time slot there.

The specials also preempt QC at 3 on WBTV and Sherri on WSOC.

last night, WFAA preempted it's regular programming for more Dallas Mavericks basketball, but this time, since it was a away game in Sacramento against the Kings, the station opted to preempt programing in the 8 PM hour with the 10 PM newscast airing 2 hours early and then followed it up with pregame coverage then the game aired at 9 PM and they replayed the 8 PM newscast after the game ended.

So I noticed that tomorrow night WCNC is randomly blowing out the entire NBC primetime lineup.

They are preempting The Voice and Dateline which I assume are reruns for a Franklin Graham Easter message, a Flashpoint special, two episodes of Daytime Jeopardy which they haven’t aired in like 15 years or so and the movie Bernie. This is so unlike WCNC.

Oh and NBC is airing an eclipse special on April 8 from 2-4 which for WCNC will preempt Daily Blast Live and Judge Judy, I was checking for that when I saw the Sunday night surprise.
