Music on 87.9

Listening to Church music in Spanish on this channel. Very statically but not being used as a FM transmitter.

Music just stopped and a guy is talking. I live on 45 NORTH by Rankin and am listening to it on my neighborhood.

A few days ago, I indicated that it is likely that 87.9 is a pirate radio station that is broadcasting old Spanish Christian music. Could it possibly be Jo*? The reception quality is favorable on the northern side and in close proximity to downtown Houston. Only a small number of individuals would engage in playing with that particular format.

In my car, I have an adaptor which plays on 87.9. If you were in your car and I was in the next lane, you would hear Best Smooth Jazz from London with Rod Lucas or KNTH or KKHT. It could be somebody's adaptor.

I live by 45 and Rankin (said it many times 😂) I picked it up in my neighborhood with lots of static till I reached my destination in The Heights. As someone already stated signal seemed to get better in that area.

Getting back on topic, I’m hearing extremely weak Spanish language Christian music on 87.9 at my Cy-Fair location. Signal is barely above the noise floor; there are some peaks that sound like “aircraft reflection” reception. Too weak to understand any spoken word content.

Chuck Tiller: When tuning around I’m still finding KKHT often has very low audio, might want to check (again) on that.

When we get the new transmitter on the air, that will all change. Sometimes we have to broadcast fro0m our AUX tower, which does not cover as well. Currently, both stations are undergoing automation changes from ENCO to Wide Orbit.

Just to be clear, when I refer to “low audio” it just sounds like the overall program line feed to the transmitter has been potted much lower. Signal level is fine.

Visited Houston today to work at a site near Fairbanks North Houston. I got my meter out and drove around taking readings. The Spanish music in 87.9 is originating from a building near the Harris County appraisal district on 290.

Seems like the distance is similar to an LPFM then. It’s about 10 miles away from 45 and Rankin which was weak in the first post. I’m hoping one night I’ll hear it around The Woodlands through tropos

I’m ~7 miles from HCAD and the 87.9 signal is barely above the noise floor here.

Broadcasting from a Building possibly?

As opposed to what? A tent?
No a coconut tree 🤣.
There are multiple cellular communication towers located in the vicinity. My friend owns a property that is currently leased to America Tower, which is situated just three minutes away from the specified location.
