New York Jets radio to WAXQ Q104.3 for the 2024 season as ESPN 98.7 signs off later this year.

Is there a possibility, even remote, that no potential buyer emerges and the station goes dark for a period, then has the license turned in when the search for people looking to sink money into radio in 2024 proves fruitless? Or does the asking price just sink lower and lower until Cats or some low-rent Godcaster or leased-ethnic broadcaster comes up with a relative pittance for 98.7?

You can count out a WOR simulcast, iHeart is at ownership limits. Idk if Cats is going to pay what Emmis wants for 98.7. The rock station is also extremely unlikely. What operator do you think would buy it to run Rock on it?

Anything that isn't ethnic or religious would greatly surprise me at this point.
You’re right on all points. I was just hoping 😊

That would be counter productive to the goal Emmis had here. They want to sell the station and distribute the money to their stockholders. Turning in the license wouldn't help.

To fund the buyback, Emmis must first sell its two New York stations: “ESPN New York 98.7” WEPN and gospel WLIB (1190), the only stations left in its once formidable radio empire.

Once again it depends on who the buyer is. Because we don't see people with spare money buying stations on a whim.

Audacy and iHeart are at their limits in NY, and both are coming out of bankruptcy. There are no other non-religious buyers.
Your right. I was just sorta hoping 😊

No, there's no way, even in 2024, that an FM full market signal goes dark in NY. The price may come down, but someone or some organization will buy it.

It can't be a WOR simulcast. IHeart already has as many FM stations as it's allowed to have in the market.

Well that was fast....rumor from league meeting there will be christmas games !!!!
People thought there was a possibility of no christmas games? The nba has been doing this for decades. The nba thinks their in competition with the nfl so they’re going to keep having games on Christmas

If it's only one game, I'd imagine the NBA will surrender that time slot and cut down to four games. Multiple NFL games and it's curtains for Christmas basketball.
Was announced its 2 games most likely 1.00 & 4.30.
Nba will still go against them just like last yr & get clobbered again but for them its still good numbers.

Well nfl hadnt played wednesday in the past & mnths ago Hans Schroeder exec media vp said there wouldnt any this yr so that why none was expected.
+ now the christmas teams will play the saturday before so its more limitations on the schedule.
But 28.7 million viewers was the 3 game avg last yr so that was just too good to pass up.

You're misreading the issue. Christmas 2024 falls on a Wednesday. The NBA doesn't care what day of the week Christmas falls on; it plays five games. The NFL, until now, has only played on Christmas when it falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday. Playing a game on a Christmas Wednesday -- or any Wednesday -- would be a first for the league, and, as I said earlier, would devastate the NBA's Christmas ratings during the hours they go head to head. So far, we know no specifics, or even if the plan will fly with the players union.

My apologies!! Yes. I misread. the nfl will only continue to get in the way of the nba. What really bothers me is that college basketball bothers scheduling Christmas games.
