Hank on 97.7? Might as well be on AM. 97.7 is fringy enough as it is in South King County, much less other areas of the metro.

No Joke. Star 101.5 Flipping Today Too

Apparently no one in Seattle is interested in buying and owning radio stations.
We did a three way Country race in Seattle before from 1994-1996. We had;
94.1 KMPS (The Reigning Belt Buckle),
96.5 KYCW "Young Country 96.5" and
106.1 KRPM "Kickin' Country K-106"
It didn't end well. First, they cannibalized each other, then they were consumed in a succession of ownership changes .

I captured it from the stream ... which has worse audio quality than AM on a bad day.
But if you're still looking I can either send it or post it somewhere. Pretty much a non-event.
Not likely to happen this time. Audacy already tried buying the competition once. Hubbard knows the game already.

Why do you say the stream has worse audio quality than AM? I've never heard AM sound as good as that stream. I have heard a couple streams that sound at least as bad if not worse than AM, but those are rare. Obviously since I'm out of the market these days I had to capture it via the stream, but I got the last 45 minutes or so of Star and probably the same of the beginning of Hank.

That late 80s early 90s was a high point of country music even compared to today. It seemed every album went gold or platinum. Line dancing was all the rage and Garth Brooks was selling out concerts like he was The Beatles. I'm not plugged into the country scene like I was back then (concerts, boots, hat and bolo tie), but if three couldn't make it during that period what are the odds of it happening today. Time will tell and should keep this board plenty active.
News format costs at least 3 times as much as music format. Lotus will most likely keep 2 full timers for 101.5. (production and on air work) Most, if not all the shifts will be voicetracked from out of town.
That's why the news format should be on AM 1000 and FM 101.5. The hills here give FM problems. (multi-path) I wouldn't be surprised to see Lotus leave the news format. (look at the ratings) If that happens all bets are off. 97.7 covers south and west Seattle and southward into the markets that are most likely to embrace classic country. Everett and surrounding areas already have a classic country station on AM and FM. That leaves 2 fullpower FM's duking it out for younger country listeners.
Any way you slice it, Wolf by far and away has the head start, and the Bull with a proven morning show will shovel #### on top of 101.5. Only person I can think of that would put 101.5 into the race is Ichabod Cain, who surely get them in the game. You'd have to back up the Brinks truck at his place and I highly doubt Lotus would do that.

Maybe in urban ethnic enclaves where there's no FM station or translator playing a particular ethnic group's music.

I don't know how Hank would have done fine just as a 97.7 South Sound signal. Isn't KAYO/KYYO a VERY dominant signal down there in the ratings? Although, get out of the I-5 corridor and it's very rural, definitely country music in the air. I'm talking about Lewis County, Shelton, McCleary...
I’m not sure getting a lot of listeners from McCleary is one of the key goals set by Lotus. If Star 101.5 were performing well, and they had a free south mountain FM to put to use, absolutely they could try country on a station like 97.7. But even then, they’d want to capture listeners who reside in King and Pierce countries. KYYO really is playing by its own set of rules, since it’s a local station with a local focus.

And I think Young Country lasted until the flip to Jack in 1999. Between 1999 & 2005, when the Wolf showed up on 100.7, looks like it was just one current Country station. Seems that historically, two country stations is the max around here -- at least in the most populated section of the metro.
He still shows up as a member. Maybe something is taking time away from participating in the forum. He and I didn't get along much, for some reason, but he always has had good information and insight concerning radio operations, that's for sure.
