March numbers are here

Whoa! KSBJ is #1. Has that ever happened before?

What has changed with KILT and 93Q? 93Q was way ahead of "The Bull" just last year, and now KILT has pulled up to and ahead of KKBQ. Has Urban One forgotten the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", or has KILT made some adjustments that are obviously working?

I never thought I would see the day that 97.9 would be hovering at a 3 share. The Beat has taken about half of The Box's listeners over time. Used to see 97.9 with a 6-7 share when 93.7 was still classic rock, but those days are now long gone.

Hey look, Frog! The lame duck dumpster fire KROI is actually up.

KFNC drops below 950. What more can you really say about that?

Remember this survey covered most of Rodeo, both Country stations saw large cume increases, as they typically do every March.

I think the rodeo certainly has something to do with it, but KKBQ has been sounding increasingly stale as of late once again. The few times I’ve stuck around to listen to KKBQ, the music has sounded very heavy on gold stiffs, jocks are back to reading liner cards, and the imaging has been the same for months. While KILT has done a great job with the music, imaging, and being really heavy on their local “Texas Proud” identity… to the point where Q is using the term “Texas Proud” in their top of hour 😂

If I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought they were programming the station from out of market, but I know it’s just programmed by people that are definitely not from Texas.

How accurate are these ratings? It still does KOVE as Tejano
The format descriptors on the online web sources that publish ratings results are inserted by the website, not provided by Nielsen. They don't provide ownership data, either.

That is why I recommend Nielsen Audio Ratings - RadioInsight because Lance Venta is very conscientious in accurately listing formats and identifying corporate ownership, too.

As to the ratings themselves, they are "accurate enough" for major advertisers and their agencies to spend billions of dollars a year on radio based on the Nielsen ratings. Remember, ratings are called "audience estimates" because a small demographically proportional sample is used to "project" into the universe. This is not a census.

Ratings are done for advertisers. Stations pay for them so advertisers can have reasonably accurate data on which to base ad buys. Those value-less 6+ PPM or 12+ diary survey results are issued "to the press" because Nielsen and stations believe it focuses attention on radio and keeps the industry top of mind with customers.

Americans like lists. Letterman based a significant part of his show on lists. But remember, those 6+ PPM numbers are pretty much never looked at by advertisers... so that is why they are given away for free.

Wonder if radio usage is higher for Evangelicals, which would help skew the KSBJ numbers higher.

KFNC is now my favorite dumpster fire, but yes, Praise is going out on somewhat of a high note. How soon will SBS get to a 1.5 with whatever format they launch on 92.1?

KFNC is always behind KPRC which isn’t saying much for either station. Perhaps that dumpster fire is about to be extinguished.

Well, they're not hitting the nightclubs and honky-tonks or watching all that sinning on TV or in the movies, so other than praying, preaching, working and (if married) procreating, what else can they do for a good time but listen to the radio?

Have the Research Director articles for this month not been released yet, or has pjc just not been around to post them?

They're up, Houston must have not made it to his copypasta routine yet.

KLTN falling behind two rimshot competitors is astonishing. Credit to Estrella for accomplishing something none of us thought could ever be possible.
Estrella Media changed nothing. What happened is that the Bryndis show self-destructed and took the station with it.
