Baton Rouge The Continued Evolution of Eagle 98

They have added some currents and re-currents to the mix. Seems to be 1 to 2 tracks per hour. They really seem to be headed toward an evolution towards active rock, or even a more classic alternative leaning sound. In the evenings/overnight they seem to really open the 90s alternative archive, as I've heard a few surprising tunes like Tori Amos - Caught a light Sneeze.

One of the DJs was speaking about the change on air after playing a Bad Omens song. The DJ said on air, to paraphrase, that they know the old timer listeners of the station weren't happy about the addition of new rock and alternative rock, but that music is always evolving so the station has to as well, and they should give it a chance before dismissing it all.
 
I'm 46 and they sound better for my tastes day after day, but Planet Radio 106.7 in Lafayette is a near perfect match for me. What's even more ironic is as Eagle evolves, it sounds more like the original 100.7 The Tiger, which almost brings things full circle 20 years later when Guaranty blew up the rock format on WTGE.

Separately, I will say Eagle's audio quality on the HD broadcast sounds phenomenal.

Yes, planet radio is definitely my number 1 preset, but I keep getting wowed by eagle as well.
 
I think personally as classic rock has to embrace more of the Staind, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc due to these songs hitting the major 20 year classic rock milestone, much new rock sounds like these groups, it doesn't pay to stay stuck in 1985. Plus with 92.3 going on a smaller tower which basically eliminates city grade signal, it's something that has to be done.
Just like I'm finding 100.7 adding more texas reddirt and classics to its Playlist to grab the people who aren't liking the corporate pop country lean at YNK imo.

Wait? 100.7 adding real country? I never listen but last time I did it was a WYNK clone. As for Eagle I Heard Hardy and felt ill. Not for me. But I pretty much own the part of their playlist I do like. I cant handle all the commercials and now rap country sounding stuff they are playing.

They had added real country, but sounds like they canned it for more 90s classics and typical Nashville scene stuff. (As most playlist is 90s and today)

Hardy has been branching out and is currently number 5 on mediabase active rock , so that's why. Sort of trying to be the next multi format artist like jelly roll.

I'm still surprised WYNK has listeners that are the original P1s as with everyone local off, figured it would go hard Nashville pop
 
And sounds like WDGL during day parts aren't playing new music anymore , pushing it to after 6pm till 6am and almost zero younger than 20 years during dayparts. Considering they are the only rock station in BR, curious why the move .

Must have seen impacts to their ratings that had them readjust. It's crazy they keep retuning their sound.......
 
Wondering if there were signs that iheart may have considered going classic rock (and W&J) with the KVDU move-in given Eagle's pretty significant shift away from traditional classic rock and the move back was to close that potential competitive threat?

I found myself primarily listening to Eagle with the heavy 90s rotation but have since moved away again with the return to 50 year old tired songs.
