Cleveland TV Revolving Door

WKYC NBC 3 has brought in reporter Candice Hare, coming over from WXIX Fox 19 in Cincinnati.

She is part of the GO! team weekday mornings as a reporter, joining the newly realigned team of Danita Harris and Dave Chudowsky (anchors), Matt Wintz (weather) and Isabel Lawrence (traffic)

WKYC has entered into a partnership with Cleveland.com/The Plain Dealer. The station also has a partnership with Signal Cleveland, an online news service for the city.

I watched that story on YouTube yesterday, expecting it to be something groundbreaking, and it didn't seem like the heads of the station and cleveland.com said anything besides "we both have opinions, and are going to present both sides." Did I miss something, or is it a case of pooling resources to provide more content on both platforms?

More or less.

Like I said before, WEWS and the ABJ have had the same kind of deal going for years, so this is nothing new.

WKYC NBC 3 has brought in reporter Mitti Hicks. She was previously at KMSP Fox 9 in the Twin Cities, and has done some national work for Fox News and Fox Weather as a reporter.

She has Ohio roots as she is an O.U. grad.

Another top Anchor at WKYC Cleveland is out according to FTVlive. My guess is Laura Caso. As soon as they brought in Christie Paul, Laura was removed from the top 6 and 11pm slots. Which was dumb as their 6pm newscast was #1 when Laura was on it.

Christi has local roots (Bellvue) and national fame from her days at CNN/HLN.

Also, it never seemed like Russ Mitchell and Laura ever really meshed.

Remember, when Laura first came here it was right at the start of the pandemic, and she and Russ weren't even in the same room (Laura was in the newsroom while Russ was at the regular anchor desk).

From mid 2021 until mid 2022, they went back and forth between sitting together at the desk to being at the extreme opposite ends of the desk (with a giant flat screen in between them) depending on the ebb and flow of covid cases at the time and the internal stop-start social distancing that came with it.

They just never really got into a groove.

I think it could be Laura leaving as well. She was good on the 4pm and 7pm newscasts, but my guess is the ratings are not that good.

I remember Laura coming in months after 3's big revamp late in 2019 as they tried to go for a lifestyle news format. That ended after the pandemic started.

Also, there are those who blame Laura for pushing out Sara Shookman, who was really popular and had better chemistry with Russ.

Sara's a hometown girl, Laura's an out of towner.

This market likes to stick with their own more often than not.

Wayne Dawson returned to WJW this morning after being away on health leave. Meanwhile, Andre Bernier is giving his last forecast this coming Wednesday on Fox 8.

Soooo, it must have been Jimmy they were talking about.

Another mystery is whatever happened to A.J. Colby's "new gig" (First teased, about one year ago on his youtube page, I think.)? Also, is anyone going to replace Andre Bernier or does WJW feel it has enough weather people to take on his shifts.

Quite frankly, the weather department there is one reason I stay away from Channel 8 news.
