Cox Media Group Geo-blocking All US Radio Properties.

Being in Australia, I’m a nosey person, and like to explore random US radio station sites. While doing this, I discovered that Cox Media has a geo-block on all there radio websites. I understand the argument for streaming, but whole sites? That’s a new one.

This is pretty common. It largely began with GDPR regulations in Europe. These legacy media companies in the US didn't want to pay to comply with foreign regulations. Since they derive a tiny fraction of a percent from overseas visitors, they do not have any incentive to comply, and to ensure they don't inadvertently break the laws, they block EU visitors.

They could have added Australia somewhat more recently. I'm not sure if there was similar legislation in AUS that would have caused them to add your country to the list.

Likely because of the News Media Bargaining Code.

These stations aren't making money off of international audiences, so it won't affect their bottom line. And it helps them financially from being in violation of the Australian law.

Also the risk of union-represented talent voicing spots outside the market or country.
