Power 106/KPWR

He has great pedigree, having run WBLS and WQHT in NYC.
And the entire SBS group, as well as KLVE in LA before that. He began with Bill Tanner and Russ Oasis in Miami in the late 80's.

I think they need a new logo the current one they have is old. A fresh coat of paint might be a good idea

There’s nothing he can do for power 106. The demographics they want are all in on streaming the unedited versions of each of those tracks. I never see power 106 actually flipping. But, they’ll forever be stuck with the shares they have. With Big Boy, 92.3 will always have more listeners

You’re right because 92.3 sounds better than Power 106 at the moment. IMHO Real 92.3 is an amazing example of how 92.3 The Beat would sound like if it were still around. I grew up on Power 106 they haven’t been right since big boy left 9 years. Now if you could excuse me I gotta back to listening to A Tribe Called Quest. That’s real hip hop folks.

Which is sad, because (IMHO) three of Meruelo's four stations are all stuck with the same demographics problem. If he wasn't so focused on "saving" KDAY -- his announced reason for acquiring 93.5 in the first place -- and then flanking it with Power and Cali, presumingly to strengthen the cluster, he would be better off taking at least one of those stations in a more mainstream direction and have something he can sell in combo with KLOS (which has the best demos and ratings of all four).

But honestly, if it came down to saving KDAY or Power, which is the most realistic of saving? The moment iheart offered Big Boy his own personal jet and mega deal, it was over for Power. Big Boy was to Power what Kevin and bean were to kroq. Power will forever be the No 2 station behind Real. You can save KDAY because they’re the only game in town doing that. There’s nothing merulo can do with power that will ever work

I think you missed my point. Or maybe I wasn't clear enough.

Meruelo has three stations -- 93.5, 93.9, and 105.9 -- that are supposed to be strengthening each other as a cluster, and instead it's a disjointed mess that does horribly in the ratings now. KDAY was never going to be a top-ten station; it is signal challenged. But KLLI and KPWR? They could (and should) do better.

They really need to take one of those two stations and program it to be a strong addition to 95.5, so that they can actually have a saleable combo. I don't care which one.

The new VP of Programming we referred to in post 4 has been on the job for two weeks. It takes time to get settled and set a strategy.

Let's revisit this in a month.

Fine by me, A. Maybe while we are waiting, someone there might notice these comments and get some ideas.
How about a classic hits station to compete against krth right now krth is the only game in town. A healthy competition might bring ears to 105.9 they are a full power FM and could get better ads if they do indeed go classic hits
