What happened?

Simpler? I think it’s just the opposite. What happened to the Top 20 markets listing? I like to see what’s happening in all the markets at a glance. I don’t want to click on every single region to get there.
We're not done. Things are still being adjusted. The state boards required two click throughs so this brings them right to the forefront (and puts all-submarkets under them) increasing. We want every radio forum to be visible through. Putting 92 regional boards under one list would be extremely unwieldy (and further additions will help tag conversations better).

We're willing to take suggestions on how to organize them, but to us this was the best option.

Good to know. I hope something like that comes back. I liked being able to have all the major and large markets on one page without having to waste time clicking multiple links and having to scroll past Arkansas or Oklahoma or wherever.

If it was up to me, at this point the way radio is less and less of a local medium and more national and regionalized, I would've combined everything into one large board with tags to spotlight what market is being discussed. That is something we're going to possibly test on a smaller scale (such as for say Upstate New York with tags for Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse etc..), but would be way too big of a change to do so instead we're simply consolidating "dead" boards like putting Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont back into one "Northern New England" catch-all and combining Baltimore and the Maryland state forum.

We constantly see topics in some regions asking questions that they would know the answer to were they more aware of what is happening on a national scale. We want participants to be more aware of what happens in say New York or Toledo is not in a bubble to the rest of the industry

One of the things we're going to do is show some of the customization features that have been in place here. Every user can create custom feeds of just the boards they want to see or ignore topics they don't.

But also having a message board structure that hasn't really changed since 1999 other than becoming more bloated with forums behind multiple levels of categories doesn't work to increase participation in 2024.

I don't pretend to know the particulars, but the rating of Frank as "inactive" got me thinking, When I die please rate me as deceased or RIP.

I can't think of a better definition of "inactive" as having passed away, actually ...

My best guess is that "inactive" is a descriptor which is hardwired into the XenForo® software.

I've noticed that the inactive status varies on when someone gets it. Some members get it after not posting for a short period while others haven't posted in years but are still considered active. Will the basis be changed to be more consistent?

I am liking the new color scheme. Wondering if it’s possible to have city or state of poster under their name now that there is a blank line under our name. Or “member since 20xx or 19xx” under our name

I have discovered -- entirely by accident -- that whatever you put under "Occupation" in your profile will display underneath your name in the forums.

Or at least it will until the management realizes this and changes it ... :p

Frank's being listed as "inactive" was something done accidentally when cleaning up a setting. That will be switched to something more appropriate.

The inactive setting is actually for users who haven't logged in since the board software change at some point. I'm trying to figure that out still.

That was purposely done, at least until people abuse it. It's actually a setting for "Custom Title" for now in your profile. I still need to build that out a little more.

Sadly, most of the way the site has been running has been on the default settings of this software. Frank never customized much and the UX suffered a bit because of it. That's what I'm trying to upgrade and improve here.

Nice to see the radio in the United States portion of the forums on the front page shortened up & decluttered by not listing the major market separately & grouping them all regionally as it is.

I'm never checked my "score", "fame ranking", number of posts or any other thing like that, except to see what someone said in response to something I posted when I got a "ding" on the little notification bell. I bet if this site had a middle finger emoji, I probably would have gotten hundreds of those.
