They need to register as part of the first post, which must still be approved by an administrator before their first post is seen. It just simplifies the registration process.

I have a question, Lance, related to the reply I made to a secondary thread which you closed (sorry!).
On the Forums menu, where all the new regional groups of forums are listed, does the board software allow for a text description of each selection? If so, I think a lot of confusion could be removed if a list of the states in each region were included in that manner.

I'm not real enthusiastic about user-interface discussions, feeling like I can adapt to just about anything. One thing I will say is that the definition of "Midwest" is odd to me. I wanted to find the Iowa board which is in "Central States" and not "Midwest". There's a whole suite of tropes in Iowa centered on its Midwesternness. I won't get into Missouri, which has plenty of geographic identity problems of its own.
Might also want to split up "Western" into "West Coast" and something like "Mountain States".
One more thing: I would like to see DX and Reception taken out of the Specialty category and allowing it to stand on its own. It gets far more activity than anything else in the Specialty category.

im ok with speciality as it is.. i think the radio pros section can be collapsed and allow them to be a drop down pick.. some boards there dont get used very often at all.... one looked liek the last post was 2017!

We're going to figure out adjustments. But see below. Listing what is now over 80 regional board (soon to be cut some more) is going to need to be broken up in some form. Nearly every user will align them differently. The way it is being done is to allow easy access to every one of those. Previously many of the boards required clicking through to multiple pages to see the listings. That is being eliminated
We haven't gotten there yet. We have a long way to go in the restructuring and once it's done it will make sense.
As @DavidEduardo said earlier in the thread, all of us here are keeping this site running as volunteers. There is no income right now (all the banner ads are still going to Frank's partner) and we all have other main work/lives.
oh i totally get it, wasnt complaining or anything, just offering my .01 cents worth of feedback since it seems like you were open to that and just making a suggestion.
Is it possible to keep the state boards as they are now organized, but have a Top 20 markets section that would be a "quick access" to those forums from the main page?

Really miss the simple access to view threads in the top markets. Radio is very market based and just nice to keep those as a central/major part of the board.
If you really want to see how many messages someone has posted, you can always hover your mouse over their avatar on the left hand side of the message.
I visit nearly every day, have been out of the full-time radio business since 1997 yet I still love reading all of the contributions here. I'll never lose interest in the radio business.
Just a suggestion here if it hasn’t been noticed, I know the great admin team is probably ahead of the curve.
Could the “Internet Streaming and Podcasting” and “Over the Air Stations and the Internet” forums somehow be combined and/or placed under the ”Specialty” board where SXM, etc are? It seems like a lot of duplication and it feels like I have to go to multiple places to see similar posts. I know theres still work going on, but just thought I’d throw it out there.
Again, just my 2 cents, keep up the great work with the site improvements. I appreciate all of the work Lance, Scott, David, and the rest of the team are putting in to improve the forum experience!

I have noticed that after today's update, that it's actually not any more difficult than it was before. With the breadcrumbs trail (I think that's what you call it?) and the way the larger markets' forums are right under their states, I found I was very easily able to go between New York and Boston. Perhaps we don't really need the top twenty markets now anyway?
I also notice that there are more topics and and forums on the front page, and that makes it easier to get to a topic of interest with less hunting around. It's analagous to the store putting more of its merchandise in the front window.
That's been the goal here all along, you described it better than I could. Every RADIO board will be available through a drop down or one click from the home page. I found boards that were hidden and only available through 3-4 clickthroughs and now they're straight on the home page. Once we consolidate some of the dead sub-boards we'll hopefully be able to make even more available in this manner.
The only boards that require going to a subpage will be the TV ones. And if you want to go directly to those in the same manner may I suggest you bookmark TVDiscussions.com.

Technically, it is true that Puerto Rico is part of the United States. But culturally speaking, PR is Spanish. There are to my knowledge no major network English-language radio or TV stations there.
Can't speak to the radio side of things, but on TV, WKAQ carries NBC, WORA carries ABC, WQTO/WMTJ air PBS. Fox is supposedly on an LPTV.

After a quick trip to rabbitears.info, it looks like the English-language U.S. networks are on some of the digital subchannels. Now that there are more channels available, it makes sense. When I was there in '96 (i.e., before digital) they were only available on cable, and I think they were actually retransmissions of different US-based affiliates, e.g., the NBC affiliate in Raleigh, NC.
I believe there was one English-languare radio station, and that was WOSO. They went out of business several years ago.

Have you considered broadening it to include the other U.S. territories in the same forum as well?
I searched for "Guam" just now and found a thread in the "Questions about RadioDiscussions" forum. The U.S. Virgin Islands don't come up very frequently but when they do, there doesn't seem to be a place for them either.
They aren't geographically close to each other but they frequently get grouped together in conversations about the "U.S. territories", and they are all under the FCC's jurisdiction.
