Rudy Giuliani out at WABC

So why didn't this happen sooner, like in 2021???
Just a reminder to keep this thread focused on the radio side of this and not the political...

And the answer to that question was Giuliani brought in money for the station. Even now they're not completely cutting ties with him, just taking off his weekday soapbox since he failed to comply with what was asked of him by ownership. I listened to the intro of the show today, which was guest hosted by Curtis Sliwa, but still was branded as the Rudy Giuliani Show.

It's interesting that the linked article in the NY Times states that WABC did not pay Giuliani a salary. Instead they shared with him a percentage of the show's advertising revenue.

To me that's the biggest takeaway from it as well. A number of the other hosts on the station have similar deals and would explain how Catsimatidis makes money through WABC and Red Apple Audio Networks.

An article in the NY Post provides two additional bits of information. Rudy said he was making around $15,000/month from his WABC gig, which he considers way too little. Also, station owner Cats said Guiliani had asked him several times for additional time slots, which he declined to provide.

The WABC website indicates that at least for now, the 3-4 PM hour during which Giuliani had been doing his show will be filled by Cats & Dominic Carter. Cats will still be on also 5-6 PM.

If I didn't know better, this looks like Rudy decided to burn his bridges with napalm.
Word on the street is; Rudy was warned several times that he needed to stop with the stolen election and conspiracies regarding electronic voting systems. Everyone, including Rudy, is already paying big bucks for lawyers to defend themselves against crap being said on the air. Think Fox News settling with Dominion Voting Systems for three-quarters of a billion for defamation.
When warned again, Rudy said clearly he wouldn't stop. That's considered severe insubordination to any employer or any language.

$180,000 a year to do a one hour show. Even if stretched out to a full-length show, that is pretty much in line or on the higher end of the afternoon drive payscale in New York these days.

Rudy also seems to forget something called the First Amendment. A privately owned business can do whatever they want, just as we don't want political comments on this site, Catsimitidis has every right to dictate what he wants on his radio station.

The somewhat, but not really, sad thing about Rudy being an idiot and getting canned; is WABC was his only steady income. He's lost his license to practice law, and fundraising attempts similar to the former President have fallen flat, as have his attempts at Patreon. Like Mike Lindell, Rudy's tilting at windmills has ruined his life.

I don’t know how much stock to put into Barrett News Media, and I didn’t see it anywhere else. Plus, I’m not sure how much of this is just Catsimatidis bloviating, but he said he's going to be purchasing another radio station.

It’s almost entirely bloviating. I would be stunned if he actually bought 98.7.
