Why did WLNK report a missing child?

I saw the message on a TV while I was watching something I had recorded. The screen went blank except for the scrolling message about the missing child, and it said "WLNK" at the end.

WLNK is a Hot AC radio station. So what is their connection with reporting missing children?

This is a national question because I'm guessing there is some sort of policy that applies nationwide and there is a different station or stations in each market.

they are the primary Emergency Alert System station in the Charlotte market, that's why their calls are mentioned in the EAS scroll on your TV as that was a EAS Child Abduction Emergency/Amber Alert that you got in this.

i know in Dallas the primary Emergency Alert System stations in the area are 820 AM WBAP-AM (which is also now simulcasted on 93.3 FM WBAP-FM) as well as 96.3 FM KSCS too. and when i seen EAS alerts on 55 & 47, sometimes they mention WBAP or KSCS' calls instead of the TV Station's calls (for 55 it would be KAZD and for 47 it would be KTXD)

It might have been but I seem to recall it being a different type of alert.

My question is who chose WLNK to send it out.
As explained above, WLNK is one of the primary EAS stations for the market. Those designations are made by the state EAS coordinator.

when it comes to EAS activation of Amber Alerts, they are always known as "Child Abduction Emergency" on the EAS, either on the TV or on the NOAA Weather Radios.
