CHR Ratings

It looks like I'm left with just lurking at this site and though this will most likely get deleted, I figured that I would try because I love chr and the summer 2024 songs are the best in awhile!

Post Malone Morgan Wallen-I had Some Help
Tommy Richman-Million dollar baby
Billie Ellish-Lunch
Bradley Simpson-Picasso
Myles Smith-Stargazing
Shaboozy-Bar Song
Kane Brown and Marshmallow-Miles on it
Hozier-Too Sweet
Benson Boone-Slow it down
Kendrick Lamar-Not like us

And Austin, Espresso, Birds of a feather, I like the way you kiss me, Euphoria, and Samantha Harvey's song are not too bad either.

Already the best summer in quite some time!

Enjoy the music and your summer, and thanks to some of you for whom I enjoyed chatting with here!
Sure looks like it!

I'm not involved with CHR or Hot AC, but I love them and I feel helpless!

Please if you can do something or know someone that can, I know that it's probably too late to save them but please please, some of us really care about radio, please try!!!

Million dollar baby

Stargazing

Power them all right now!!!!

C'mon man, we are in panic mode, current radio not Country is dying!

At least show the people why we are the best, show them that we give them the hits, their new or next favorite songs first without a bunch of stiffs and wrong songs!

Bring back the perception that if they don't listen to us then they are missing out!

Thanks for whatever you can do, big or small, it's all hands on deck!
Just put the ego stuff on hold for a bit, let's work together and at least know that we did everything that we could.

Way too much country influence. It doesn't hit right anymore. Some of these tunes that have come out this spring work better on an alternative or rock/country crossover type format. I just dont see it working in my opinion.

The mix of hip-hop, country and pop mixed in just doesnt feel right.

The Malone/Wallen tune looks like it's going to be the smash of the summer across CHR, AC and Country.
Ya think? 🤔

I'm sorry, I'm glad that you like it too, if it's two only below Taylor tier currently artists and it sounds that amazing then you are pretty safe saying that will be #1, on that Friday that it was released.

Right now, Hozier should still be #1 and...Help should have it's first week at #1 next week if chr was what it should and could be.

Pretty cool that Shaboozy is #1 in the UK for what the 3rd week now?

It's totally right.

Shaboozy is on its 3rd week at #1 in the UK and they kinda don't dig Country like Murkuh.

These Country flavored hits will work out well in other formats and other countries, but they define American CHR in 2024!!!!!!¡!

Yeah, please pretty pretty pretty please, I'm begging!!!

If you think Lunch is too much for your Conservative market, go on to "Birds of a feather" and maybe revisit Lunch in a few weeks or daypart it.

No, I'm not some cray Billie Illish fan, I'm a mega huge fan of chr though.

Thanks for all that you do if you want to flip to the helper side!
From Billie Eillish, "Chichuro" (sp?) is good too.

Here's a thought that may have some relevancy, or may just be interesting as we talk about listeners that want to hear familiar tunes.

Every artist, no matter how popular, and every song, no matter how big, had to have been heard for the first time at some point. At that point, they are an unknown artist with an unknown song being heard for the first time. Other media hype, often, plays a role in making them of interest at the very beginning.

If it's done right, it works. Sounds American to me. Lil Nas X had those elements in Old Town Road, that was a great track.

Ah yes. That single defining American sound...that's American. If you like the country sound.
I guess I didn't explain it.... That track I mentioned, Old Town Road managed to hit points with the three big genres -- hip-hop, pop, and country -- and it worked. So it can work. Country elements can fit in with other genres. Look at what it did for the Eagles.

Same with Nelly & Tim McGraw “Over and Over Again”, and that song came out long before “Old Town Road”

I noticed the majority of CHRs have horrible ratings. Their music selection is 25 year old songs that should be played on classic hits stations. They aren't taking chances on new artists or new music. What can be done to fix ratings?
CHR stations need to do exactly what you suggest and take more chances on new artists and play more currents. They ignore a lot of product.

But CHR stations have moved away from currents because younger listeners - who would be most receptive to currents - have moved away from radio. CHRs are catering to women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, who want to hear some of the gold.

Not only that. They've moved away from this kind of curated programming. They just want to hear their favorites and not have to sit through artists they don't like. So they might just play non-stop Morgan Wallen rather than just one Morgan song an hour. At least that's what we see on the streaming charts.

And that's something FM radio can't do because they're limited to three songs per hour by one artist.
