SBS Buys KROI for $7.5 million

Third installment payment of $1M due today on the SBS purchase of KROI. Assuming scheduled payments have been made, $3.9M of the $7.5M sale price has now been paid down, with three more installments left.

RO/SST will have to file a second Extension of Consummation request with the FCC by April 9 to push past the planned July 1 closing date.

Likely three months away from a new format on 92.1.
It has been a considerable amount of time. I am wondering if the source of the one million dollars is from the lawsuit pertaining to the unsuccessful acquisition of La Voz Media. I am skeptical that La Voz Media is merely relying on a phone call from SBS and a check ready to be issued. If they choose not to buy the mega TV, I presume they will resort to litigation before making any financial contributions.

i think you might be lost.

The deal between LA VOZ MEDIA and SBS is gone. No litigation needed they already have an agreement
I believe there may have been a misunderstanding in your interpretation of my comment. The agreement has been terminated i know that. What I am suggesting is that it is highly unlikely that la voz is willing to pay up today for breaching the purchase agreement. If they make the payment, it will be a lengthy process. Once again, I am uncertain and can only speculate.

The settlement between VOZ and SBS is detailed in the article linked in post #473 of this thread.

Fifth installment payment of $1M on the SBS purchase of KROI is due today. This would bring total payments to $5.9M of the $7.5M purchase price.

Final payment of $1.6M is due at the sale closing, which according to the amended APA, is to take place “on or before July 1, 2024.” So we should be about a month away from a new format (and possible new call?) on 92.1.

New callsign is something I doubt. SBS hasn't cared about call signs in years. WODA/Puerto Rico still has the same call letters it's used since it's time as "Onda 94," which it flipped from in 2004.
Perhaps so. Most of the Spanish language station calls in Houston are relics of long-gone formats. I do recall someone who seemed to have a little inside information posting that SBS wanted to change the call to fit in with the new format, though the veracity of that is questionable.

Still curious what the new format will be called…some of the SBS brands used in other markets are already taken in Houston (La Raza, Mega.) And El Zol might have an issue with Sunny already in the market. La Ley 92.1?

Either La Ley or Ritmo.
Edit, La Nueva could also be a suitable name.

La Nueva is still in use by a religious format that has bounced around various translators and LPFMs here.
And given that SBS likes their Regional Mexican stations on the adult and traditional side, not a good fit for that format if they go with it. Great for a PR reggaeton station, not SBS's brand of RM.

We still have no idea if SBS is even planning to launch a Regional Mexican station, so yes, the "La Nueva" name is out of the question, but the possibility of a Spanish CHR similar to KXOL/Los Angeles isn't yet.

With launch supposedly a month away, you would think that something would have leaked out, such as who is on staff. Guess when the time comes there will be an abrupt dump of the Praise format, and away SBS will go with whatever is next.🤔🤨

Why do I have the scenario running through my mind that 92.1 winds up like KLAT, and months after the sale closes we’re still hearing the Praise format…🤪🤣

Curious about what differences KXOL has compared to KLOL or KAMA?🎶
